i have gathered lots of information over the last couple days (studying) and i kinda know what i want... but i have Zero cash right now.. so ive decided to wait untill summer... gives me enough time to Grow a couple plants organicly before i upgrade and then i will get the little problems under control... ive already grown 3 plants... but 2 of them never grew over 6 inch's and one was almost 12" and it started getting the little grapes so i killed it but this was a little exparament kind of... in a month or maybe even a little more the male plant was showing its sex... doesent that happen late into growth? it was less then 12"

the problem of stretching is in general caused by CFLs which are located to far away from the plant. That is the main cause. it is not about nutes, which you shouldn't use in the first 4 weeks anyway if you grow in soil, nor has it anything to do with the lack of a fan. never the less you should use a fan in a indoor grow since it will feed CO2/O2 to the plant which it needs to grow.

but back to the CFLs. Move CFLs right down to the tips of the plants, an inch away, don't let them touch the bulb/ballast nor let the bulb be ever further away then 2"! that will cure most stretching once and for all.

Begginers will generally:
Overwater the marijuana plants: When you first put soil in your plant lift it up to see how heavy it is, now remember how light it was and this will gauge you for the rest of the grow. Once the seed is in place water the plant and lift it again. Got the gernal idea here ? its all done by weight, you cal also go down to your local wallmart and by a gauge to tell you when your plants need water $5 i think it costs.

Put to many nutrients in plants:
Rarely do first time growers under-do ANYTHING, its not your fault its being to eager. When in doubt read the directions on the bottle of your bottle.

Seperation Anxiety: The first time grower will be like a mother with their first born child. You will watch every move this child makes and freak out when something unexpected happens, pay attention to your plants but do not overanalyze them. If a leaf turnes yellow don't flush your system all the time this will cause more problems then it is worth. Remember it is a weed and is one of the easiest plants to keep alive to date.

Spend to much money: Newbies will often go buy lavish gadgets and make your once cheap grow room an expensive investment. It is best to start out cheap now what your looking for and then tweak from there. I know many people that have grown for years and they still are back to basics. You will see throughout many posts in this forum cheaper ways to make scrubbers, drying rooms etc...

Good luck and remember if you have any problems just post them someone will have an answer for you
On the over watering, I get the idea of comparing weight, from what it was to what it is, but how do i tell when to re-water? I have small seedlings, some of which dried out (not enough watering, I suspect). So, given that in the early stages the root is pretty close to the surface, how do i gage watering?

I agree that nutes have nothing to do with stem elongation and the proximity of the lights means everything. But a fan blowing on the plants does increase stem strength (so does bending the stems back and forth). But again, I do agree that the distance from the tops of the plants and the light is the number one factor.

Default Just startin

I'm 19, im growing my first single mary jane plant .... sooo I am a rookie at that. I am not by any means a rookie at smoking pot are knowing the differnt qualities .... when you hand me bud that is. I think this post is so funny b/c i literally am having serperation anxiety from my plant I just wanna take it everywhere hahahah ..... It's about 5 inches tall and has been two weeks ..... what do I needa do now I put expensive fertilizer in it which seems to be doing well I work at a nursery to wich is a plus when it gets to big, but I got my plant in the window .... can it get too much sunlight? I dont need bulbs b/c my buddies grew the biggest plant ever from throwing out a roach that had a seed in it and it sprouted and he moved it to the woods and produced megga bud from it .... I just need some tips and tricks maybe to get my smoke on a little quicker or for a way to hurry up and tell atleast if im fucking with a male or female plant.
