Hey this is my first outdoor grow and was hopeing for some pointers. I just ordered purple power, early misty, early bud, and kc 33 from nirvana. i live in a northern climate and plan to pick out 4 different grow areas. I will germinate the seeds and move into rockwool medium under flouros for a week or so before moving outdoors.
1. should i use the existing soil at the site i plan to grow or should i buy a certain kind of soil 2. what should i add to the soil (existing or purchased) 3. should i bag the holes i put the soil in? why or why not? 4. is hardening off my plants important in my northern climate? if so how can i do this while remaining stealth? thanks for any help |

1. should i use the existing soil at the site i plan to grow or should i buy a certain kind of soilplan on digging big holes and keeping much of the existig soil 2. what should i add to the soil (existing or purchased)I always add some good aged compost but make sure it is aged. You can purchase good compost at the store. I also add some perlite and some lime (for pine forest) and bonemeal . Don't add any smelly organics like blood meal or fish stuff. The animals will dig it up. 3. should i bag the holes i put the soil in? why or why not?bag the holes ? ![]() ummm...... 4. is hardening off my plants important in my northern climate? if so how can i do this while remaining stealth?absolutely essential. I live in central ontario canada and I have to harden opff my plants first unless I have just put seeds straight into the ground. thanks for any help[/quote] |

Thanks for the help lacy, would you suggest starting under flourecents before moving out doors or just plant them into the ground after germinating them. Also how much water does a sprouting plant get and What do you suggest for fertilizer or any other things I will need in vegitative growth and also flowering I plan on going to the garden center today for supplies

if you dont have big pots(15 gallons or more) then definitely dig big holes and bag them-You can contain the roots and still give them enough space to spread if you dig a big enough hole. You dont want your roots extending out of your soil mix into bad soil-particularly clay which is very common.Dig a 3' by 3' hole, pour 2 to 3" of gravel or rock at the bottom for drainage, and place a large trash back with holes cut in the bottom for drainage.Try Heavy Harvest from Advanced-time release pellets that you apply once every season.(Spring,Summer,Fall.)
