Help , HAY smell
Hello ,
Just harvested 4 GDP plants. They were in coco/perlite in 5gal buckets. 600w HPS. General Hydroponics Nutes and additives. Went 8 weeks and 1 week of pure RO. Tris were mostly
cloudy when harvested. Dried hanging in dark for 4 days (75deg , 40% Hum) until starting to get crisp on outside. Clipped nugs off and put in air tight glass containers. burping twice a day.
2nd day of curing the smell has changed to a HAY smell.
In week 8 , I picked a small bud and dried for 2 days to test and the taste and smell was fantastic , and the buzz was amazing.
What happened? or is this normal , been curing for 2 days so far.

This is day 2 of curing , Ive read on this forum to burp 15 min twice a day for the 1st week. I also move the nugs around when I burp to get air everywhere.
Will it get the smell , taste and potency back after a week or 2 ?

Most likely. If you search "hay smell" you'll probably find hundreds of people asking the same questions. The pot smell goes away when you cut the plant (similar, I found, to the way it eased overnight with lights off) and then slowly returns with the week-10days of hanging a few weeks of curing.
Drying in the dark at 55% humidity would have given you a couple of more days of that stage before overdrying, and that might have been a better idea. But I doubt 4 days will be a disaster -- I ended up having to abort my hang time on the first day, and a month later my pot smells like pot.
But I was careful to slowly lower the humidity in the jars from 70% to 60% and have kept it there. Check out the A Perfect Cure sticky in Harvesting & Curing.

more thanlikely harvested early, remember to wait it out, you plants will really reek when you chop em and the pistils will be mostly brown.
if it smells like hay there cooking a little do to moister i would take out place on screen for a day in dark area for a day then back to jars and finish cureing them like your doing might have a little to much moister dont want you toget mild or mold
If we had some sort of smell-o-vision app, I could tell you if you fucked up.
If you put the weed in the jar too early it will smell/taste weird and there is not much you can do about it.
There is a curing smell and a hay smell
Although monoecious plants are often referred to as "hermaphrodites," true hermaphrodites (which are less common) bear staminate and pistillate structures on individual flowers, whereas monoecious plants bear male and female flowers at different locations on the same plant.
They smell like MJ and hay mixed. Not like in the GR before chopping. the hairs were mostly brown , 75%.
