if you are growing 1 plant a 1000w is a good as a 400w, sure you might get some tighter buds, but there is only so much that plant will grow to indoors, in a book i have it says most growers aim to achieve 0.5g per watt, this doesnt mean your going to get that off one plant, it will be as many plants as you can fit under it reasonably

I think you should post a pic of this 36 plant setup, so we get more info out of this.

When done properly with the right strain my rule of thumb is, 1000w HPS = 1lb. This is an average for an experienced grower. That's about as close an answer as I can give you.

dude thank you....from what I've gathered, the yield is simply too low for me, 1 pound every three months from 36 plants is just not gonna cut it......

Sanifsan, 1st off thats alot of plants, 2nd , the use of one 1000 watt light is not an ideal setup at all, very inefficient, you should be using more like
3- 400 watt lights, 3rd, you sound like your in it for profit, and as such you should be researching a few things....a good commercial strain, like top44 which can be grown in as little as 6 weeks, and is ideal for sog growing.
You also need to research either sog or scrogging techniques.
As far as lighting goes, you'll probaly want to supplement your grow lights with some T-5's too placed along the walls.
What is going to hurt your yeild??? YOU! Your 1st grow, will obviously yeild much less than your next grow, as you will gain much needed experience and pick up some very useful techniques. Co2 is one such technique that may help your yeild increase also.
