ok so im looking for any light fixture that I can get from a local hardware/ gardening store. I want to grow 2-3 plants and i am willing to spend up to 100$. I also want the fixture to be somewhat small. Whatever i get i dont want to buy online

why not online? Check out home depot for the 150w hps, that would probably do two and cost you abou 80smackers

just me
But go for a few CFLs. Then once ready for flowering (about 2 months) spring for a small 100-250W HPS for low budget. 400W+ for full deal.

A couple of clamp lights and 'Y' adapters then some CFL's plugged into them should work well for veggin. Flowering is a whole other story from what I've read. Some have done quite well on CFLs. I am skeptical.

It should. The hardware store is meant for the home guy. (unless yo are living in the sticks) Just look at eh box/specs or ask. It should say 120VAC. If the guy gives you a funny look just say it for above your garage. If you still look like a kid, say its for your boss's place.
