are these the CFL's i hear about?

they're Sylvania soft white, 150watts/2600 lumens.

here's what they look like. i bought three of them.

im no pro.but if your gonna buy a good light system get a high preasure sodium (hps) light and ballest. i got mine from EBAY a good place to find supplies.150$ the good thing bout the hps is that they can also use a metal halide (mh) bulb of the same wattage.so if you have the $$$$$$ i recomend the hps 400 watt.unless you wanna grow more then 10 maybe a 1000 watt instead of 400 watt. i got the 400 watt.

I don't think that is a 150W CFL

You can buy lots of these lights and try and grow with them or you can buy 1 or 2 Big CFL bulbs, you will save money buying the big bulbs, and its a lot easyer, but they are hard to find. you will probably need to buy online.

are they each 150W? or 150W equivilent? depending on how many plants you plan on growing, that may not be enough.

You are very wrong, you can not use a Meal Halide bulb in a HPS ballist or vise versa.

It is possible to get switching ballest that will run both bulbs, I have one of these and it works great. Most digital balests are switchable.

Don't be affread of MH and HPS light systems, if you can use them, you will be better off. It depends on your set up though.

I use a 125Watt CFL for my mother plants
400W MH for veg.
400W HPS for flowering.

well i havent started yet but i have been doing ALOT of studying and everywhere i check they say you CAN use a mh bulb in the hps system but its not recomended.have you tryed it???

the pic is just one i found from the same company...not the actual bulb i bought. the photo is for different wattage.

what i have says this: 150 watt replacement, using only 40 watts. i guess it used 40 watts to produce 2600 lumens where a regular 150watt standard bulb produces 2460 lumens. so i guess it uses less energy (money) to get the same light output.

i have 3 at 150 each so 450watts total.

as for HPS and/or MH...i have become very frustrated. first, i know nothing about electrical work. i went to about 4 different places that sold the bulbs at a reasonable price. but when i said i wanted somethign to be able to plug into a wall socket they all looked at me like i was nuts. they said the best i could hope for was to "canibalize" some various parts and wire my own thing together (which i won't do as i don't want to burn my house down).

so, what's the deal? am i asking the wrong questions or can you not hope to plut a HPS light into a wall socket?



all that aside, what i did buy, is that ok? it's got to be better than what i have now, so i'll be happy with that for the time being. i t's still my first grow (3 weeks into 12/12)

You can't use a standard high pressure sodium bulb in a metal halide fixture, but you can use a metal halide bulb in a high pressure sodium fixture of the same wattage. There are special hps bulbs that can be used in a mh fixture and vice-versa. But these conversion bulbs cost about double the price of a standard bulb.
