Just checked their website. It's an additive to hold moisture in soil really.Growing in little containers isn't really what it's for , just some thing you can do with it. I have seen crystals to add to soil that may be the same thing , but I still don't know.

after researching that website for a bit, it looks like the best bet would be to use it while rooting clones. it says nurseries do this for their cuttings. As for growing the whole plant from start to finish, i wouldnt probably do that. No way to get air to the roots, and after its mixed i guess you cant really add anything else to it

They sell this stuff at OSH (orchard supply hardware), its made for easy rooting of clones, don't think they make a big enough container of it to grow in. Well it was $6.99 for a 6 pack at OSH, hope that help someone...

tampicos, I don't think that is the same product. This is what I've read about the product referenced on that site:
"Polyacrylamide / acrylate is a copolymer of acrylamide and acrylic acid (normally supplied as the sodium salt) that is cross-linked sufficiently to render it insoluble in water but which retains its hydrophilic nature. It therefore can absorb a very large amount of water, swelling proportionately as it does so. The amount of water that can be absorbed is typically around 400 times the weight of polymer if the water is completely free of solutes, decreasing quite markedly as the level of solute(s) increases." Those pictures look like some sort of agar based culture medium. I've heard of them being used in laboratory propagation, but the risks of contamination are much higher than other methods. I do not believe the medium is intended for long term growth |
