Hey, I'm new so any advice that you may have would be appreciated.

I am starting a growth op in my closet. Here is what I am setting up over the next few weeks while I wait for the seeds to arrive:

Closet Dimensions:
L: 66''
W: 30''
H: 96''

Planning on using a 4-lamp T5 for lighting, and thinking of switching to a 250w HPS during vegetation (or maybe just flowering?)

Haven't decided on ventilation, how much is needed when using T5's? and what is the best way to control temperature and humidity for closet growing?

This site is great, tons of useful information.

- Adam

First things first. HPS (high presure sodium) lights are for budding, MH (metal halide) are for Vegitive. If you are going to get just 1 HID (high intinsity discharge) light go with the HPS. For the deminsions of your room I would advise useing the T5's for your veg and either a single 430W HPS or two 250W HPS lights for Budding.

As for ventilation your sapposed to circulate the room once every 3 min for the plants and can go up from there if the heat is to much and its coller where you draw the air from.

Happy Growing and start a Grow Journal so we can see your progress.

get one 430w HPS man. Good price and wont kick your power bill up much but has plenty of light for both vegative and flowering and a small rotating fan would be plenty of circulation as long as there is fresh air ciculating to.

Thanks for the replies, I will start a grow journal once I get started.

My closet is side by side to another closet, So I was thinking maybe just cut a hole between the closets for ventilation, and keep a fan in the grow room. Will any oscillating fan be fine, as long as there is fresh air coming in as well? Also, I'm not sure if this matters, but I have decided to grow big bud, and the seeds are on the way. I heard they are good for beginners.

Thanks again for the help, I've watched some of the newb videos, but I just don't want to mess this up.

Good choise of seeds midnight

im growing the same right now...one bit of advice i could give you is to start them in the bigest pot you can fit into your closet to save repoting them later on

as i have found out how fast they grow in just a matter of weeks I started them in 6in by 6in pots and they out grew them in about 2ish weeks and now they are not looking so good and turning yellow due to lack of space

i thought i would have a good month before they out grew the pots but guess i was wrong guess thats all part of the learning curve tho

i will be sorting this but its going to take me another week to get evey thing i need so next time i will just be starting them in the biggest pots

G/L on your grow though

Don't skimp on the ventilation! It's a common newbie error to make - get the lighting right but put very little thought into the ventilation.

There are 4 basic building blocks for plant growth and for photosynthesis to take place - light, water, nutrients and co2 and they're all equally important - to minimise one means the plant cannot and will not grow to it's fullest potential. Plants need co2, just as much as they need light, water and nutrients and a plant uses up all the co2 surrounding a leaf within about 3 minutes and needs a constant supply to continue cell growth. This is why you need to exchange the air completely in your grow space every 3 minutes or 20 times an hour.

Work out the cubic capacity of your grow space and select a fan capable of replacing that volume 20 times an hour. Fans also help to control temperature and humidity levels - but that's a secondary function to the main one of ensuring a constant supply of fresh co2.

I would say about a 6"-10" fan.

How about one of those 4'' hurricane incline fans? I could definately set that up in the closet, and I saw someone elses post saying they are good.

i use 2 - 8" inlines and they work great, one on the exhaust and one on the intake. listen for noise as moving air makes noise.
