I fill up about 3-5, 5 gallon bottles a week at my local convenience store....$1.25 per bottle....I had no problem at all telling a difference, the growth was way better.
Example.....My currents tap water has about 215 PPM....RO has about 15...if I keep my PPM in my res around 1200, using RO water lets me introduce about 20% more nutes..which means a much happier plant

ro water is used for fish tanks i have 2 salt water tanks,
you can buy a ro filter, or buy it in tubs. go to a fish/reef shop they will sort you out, RO water has a very low mineral content, The purified RO water is also extremely low in pollutants, so it's ideal for use in the reef aquarium, where even trace levels of some chemicals can cause algae to bloom. Reverse osmosis, or RO, may well be mentioned to you as a potential remedy if you are having water quality or algae problems. Many aquatic stores sell RO units off-the-shelf as well as RO water in large plastic drums for you to transport home. Some stores swear by it and use it for nearly all types of fishkeeping. I'm pretty sure my tap water is "hard"I can sometimes taste the nastyness of it.I'm quite positive my "TDS" are higher than maybe they should be.If i started using "RO" water,do u think my plants will grow better????

You can go to home depot or a few other places and pick up your own Reverse Osmosis unit. If you have any plumbing experience I'm sure you could install it yourself. If not, plan on paying a plumber for 1-2 hours to do it for you. What seperates R/O water from other filtration systems is the membrane of the system. After water is filtered through a sediment and carbon filter it then works it way through the RO membrane which filters down to .001 microns (the size of atomic nuclei). R/O will greatly improve everything in your water including hardness (a combination of calcium and magnesium), TDS, Nitrates, Nitrites, Bacterias, ect... one thing to keep in mind is that an RO system will not change your PH. If you have a PH problem, your solution lies elsewhere. And vice-versa, if you purchase RO water somewhere else, make sure to consistantly test the PH before you use it. I had my RO water tested against my tap water, and the RO unit removed 60-99% of the 25 substances tested for. Not bad considering my tap water tested better for those same substances against 4 out of 6 bottled waters.
