FAST & CHEAP Cloning.
I work with a lot of 'easy-to-clone' strains but I thought I would share my method, my cuttings root in anywhere from 3 to 9 days- (depending on the strain.)
This method is nothing too original or impressive but it costs just a tiny bit of work, TINY bit of $$$ and a tiny bit of patience.
Materials:
*Scissors- free (laying around the house)
*Tall bowl or cup- free (out of the kitchen cabinet)
*Exacto knife (or razorblade)- $1 or 2
*Schultz's Rooting powder (the cheapest stuff made I think, less than $5-available at Kmart/Walmart/Lowe's)
*Rockwool Cubes or Jiffy Pellets- Cheap enough
*1 Small-Medium transparent tote w/lid- possibly free, possibly 3 dollars..
*Spray Bottle- $1, everywhere.
*Nutrients/Superthrive (optional)- You most likely already ahve some of these.
*Small fluorescent/C.F.L. light (ALSO optonal!! This method requires minimum light.)
*Alcohol/Peroxide- $1
1. Use the alcohol/peroxide to sanitize the scissors, exacto knife and the bowl (or cup) and the inside of the clear plastic tote. Then, take cuttings using the scissors (preferrably 2-6mm in diameter), 2-5 nodes down on each branch (they say cuttings taken form the bottom of the plant will root faster but I have not noticed a difference, my cuttings root at about the same time.) Then place the cuttings directly into the bowl/cup of ROOM TEMPERATURE water.
2. Take as many cuttings as desired, then trim the bottom node(s) off (trimming as usual) and cut the bigger leaves in half (optional, but I've found this helps my cuttings much.)
3. Dip the end of each cutting into some rooting powder, THEN dip into back into the water (this removes excess powder and gets those cuttings to root even faster.) Finally, stick your cutting down (about 1") into the medium (rockwool cube, jiffy pellet, etc. (the small the better.)) Press the medium firmly up against the stem.
4. Spray cuttings with a fine mist (small amt. of nutrients optional), covering the foliage then spray a squirt at the base of the plant. Flip your tote upside-down and then place each cutting onto the lid, place the bottom of the tote over the cuttings as a humidity-dome (you will need a tiny bit of ventilation in the tote, I usually just loosely place it onto the lid to allow a little air-flow.
5. Remove lid 2-3 times a day to get some fresh air and spray them with a fine mist again, do not allow the medium to dry out! Temperature is (form my experience) best at around 77 degrees F and humidity at around 45-60% (in the room, misting the inside of the tote keeps cuttings at about 70% humidity.) Cuttings will root very quickly and do not require their own light (regular room light or the side of your grow room will do.)
This method is very simple but this is the way I've come to take all of my cuttings because most of my cuts root in 3-4 days, I do not feel obligated to spend more money or get rooting gel since I do not believe cuttings could possibly root any faster (from cut-to-transplant.) Once you have your materials, you only need a growing medium to take 1000's of cuttings... for pennies each!!
*Water mother plants (or for hydro, leach nitrogen by foliar feeding with plain water) 20 minutes before taking cuttings for a even stronger result/quicker roots.

have you used rooting hormone powder? heard its the same, cost the same , just a different name......depends on if i'm closer to a walmart or a home depot tomarrow , i'm getting one of the 2....

Cup, and some water, clone in water.That's it.
So far, I've only ever used the Schultz's brand... it works so good that I never had a reason to try anything else. I live in a small town, so Kmart/Walmart are my only options (besides eBay.) Either one will work great, the "trick" is to dip the cut ends into the powder, then I always dip it back into the water to remove some of the excess powder. I think the smaller amount that you use- the better, from my experiences anyways. There's only 3 types of rooting hormones, no name brand stuff has any "special rotting hormone"... they only have 3 hormones to choose form, so I know that the more expensive stuff isn't worth it. My skunk strains have always rooted in 3-4 days, I don't think the gel or a more expensive brand could possibly root them any faster, "if it's not broken, don't fix it.." Schultz's is a rooting hormone powder, it's one of the cheapest brands available. I've seen it at Walmart a few times, I always buy it at Kmart, you can get a jar for around 5 bucks and it's enough powder to root 1000's of cuttings (if you use sparingly.) I've also rooted cuttings in peat pellets with no rooting hormone at all, they seemed to root at just about the same speed. If you need any help let me know. I'm seriously going to add the pictures today, make like a "step-by-step" tutorial. I know there's already a lot of them out there but I don't think anyone has made on as simple and cheap. I also wanted everybody (who hasn't cloned before) to see how easy it is, anybody can do it- it's probably the easiest part of growing cannabis. I've had 100% success rate so far, I've only thrown some away after selecting my favorites but all of them root.

209 Cali- that is the most simple way to root a cutting, it's the easiest thing to do. I just wanted to kill some of the hype about it being "hard" or you needing to buy a bunch of useless crap to do it (heating pads, gel, etc.) ...I do not root cuttings this way, other than 1 I rooted just to see how well it worked (turned out fine.) But this will not get you full, transplant-able roots in 3 days after cutting and you run the risk of damaging your root mass when you transplant them. Though, for anyone using this simple, even cheaper method I recommend you use a dark colored glass as light hitting your cut will not help the speed of the rooting process. I am glad you threw that in there though, it will help encourage new growers who think it's complicated.
This is my favorite method because:
*Very cheap
*Very Consistent
*Very quick
*Very uniform
*EASY!

How long usually before you see roots?
On a sunlit windowsill indoors, My 3 inch heirloom Cherokee tomato cutting took almost 3 weeks
to develop primordia aka whiteheads on its underwater stem.
But when I blocked the sunlight with aluminum foil, the whiteheads transformed from acne to visible roots...
Point being, as others mentioned, darkening the root zone of the cutting sure cleared up little Cherokee's acne into good rutes.
i found swirling the water to distribute oxygen or blowing air through a straw haha didnt hurt.
Next steps - procure air pump, silicone tubing and run two air stones at the bottom of the darkened cup.
At first I thought the whiteheaded primordia were a fungal infection of some sort, but i am glad i did not toss it.
Anyone know if spider mites can deposit their eggs inside a cutting's stem?
Any links to info about organic methods to cleaning a rooted baby?
The water method takes much longer than any other method making it undesirable if time is a factor... would you rather wait 3 days or 3 weeks? Also, the supplies you need to make good, healthy, quick rooting cuttings is much cheaper than buying an air pump and airstone.
