Default Veg with CFL or HPS?

I have four 23w 6500k spiral CFLs 1610 lumens each, and a 150w HPS. Which one would you use to veg? Obviously both, but let's pretend you have to pick one or the other.

if I had that .. and had to pick ..

I would use a CLF fist week .. then add the rest for another two weeks or so ..

then I would finish Veg with the HPS for another week before I beging to turn down the light hours a hour a day untill I reach 12/12 ..

that is how I would do it ..
Take my advice !! ... I dont use it anyway ...

I hate to be the one who say it .. but you are mistaken .. for Veg you want mostly Blue spectrum ..

    400 - 520 nm

This range includes violet, blue, and green bands. Peak absorption by chlorophyll occurs, and a strong influence on photosynthesis. (promotes vegetative growth)

and for that 6500K provide most ..

5000K is`t bad either .. Im no nerd and my memory is`t the best .. but I belive the Nm spectrum 5000K provide is close to natural sun light ..

2700K have most red and yellow colors and is preferd for flowering ..

    610 - 720 nm
This is the red band. Large amount of absorption by chlorophyll occurs, and most significant influence on photosynthesis. (promotes flowering and budding)

but nomather what I will allways try to mix em up a bit .. as plants do need all colors all grow ..
just more blue in Veg do em good and make em green healthy and compact .. and more red/yellow in flowering do the flowers good so to speak

I have 4x6500K and 2x2700K T5HO tubes I use to Veg with before I throw em under the 600W HPS ..

Thanks for the advice, I will probably run CFLs from seed to veg, then find a way to just run both for the rest of the grow. CFL some of the poorly lit areas during flower. Thing is, I have the washer and dryer on the same circuit so I have to pay attention to how many amps I'm putting on that line... or I may have to run the dryer with the lights off.

If you're going CFL's use a mix for a fuller specrtum.

    Veg - a 3:1 ratio of 6500K Daylight to 2700K warm/soft CFL's

I did that, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Also, if it's a DYI, a 20in length of 8in vent pipe makes a nice reflector.

Running the dryer with the lights off is a very viable solution, it will have little if any impact on your grow.

    Have fun.

You will find that the plants vegged under the HPS will be fuller with more growth and many more
potential bud sites. In my experience....

yep .. good thinking .. I do the "same" ..

I run my washer before my lights come on at night (run my lights at night to have less heat problems but also since it fit me to run it when Im home)

I even got a wire from another room/circuit for all my small stuff .. fans .. ventilations aso ... so I actualy only run my 600W HPS and bathroom on this new 15 amp circuit I have .. might be overkill .. but make me fell better .. (live in a new appartment so I got two circuits .. plus a extra for the kitchen alone)
