    Red face Uh oh........

Did I kill my very first (finally healthy and ready to flower) plant, girl - 9 weeks, last night?

Okay, so, in my ever ingenuity, decided she was getting too tall and decided to start training her for some kind of "sea of grass" type arrangement. I'd been reading about lighting and the importance of "penetration". I'm using CFL's. I've been trimming her in the meantime, when she gets in the way of the lights. My lights run kinda hot, and she burns if closer than 6 inches or so. She's about 2 1/2 feet tall. I've only got her that will be flowering in the one space which up to 2 ft x 3 ft (two adjacent walls are moveable, so can adjust size).

I topped her way back when at the 5th node or so, about 8 inches up, where the main stem now forks and is 1/2 inch thick. In tying down the two sides, I, dare I say it out loud, split the main trunk, down about two inches or so. I've used painter's tape to tape her back together again. I'll name her Ms. Humpty Dumpty if she lives, I guess.

Will she be okay? I swear, I've done more shit with this plant trying to get her to stay healthy than any other plant I've ever grown. Of course, any other plant I'd have said the hell with it, too much trouble and let died. Is there something different I should be doing? I could pull out a surgical kit and stitch her up, I suppose. Is this going to make her want to play both ways? Maybe I should be taking a crash course in cloning?

    Geeeezzzzzzussssss!

Thanks for any help from the pros here! Surely this has happened to somebody besides me......

Dont know about painters tape they make tape for plants, not sure about the chems in that type of tape but bottom line you did not kill her yet. With that said go to nursery and get the right tape take that painters crap off and use the right stuff but you are going to be fine.

it's hard to tell the extent of the damage without a picture, but so long as you use string or something to tie her up, quite like you said, humpty dumpty style.. she will most likely heal

    i wouldn't use tape

    or honey.

no use honey it has healing properties. you can easy research the subject. many old growers swear by it to. but iomo. also is th damage that bad that the plant will struggle to transpire and take up nutes.

honey does help plants heal just a little smeared on the split parts and then wrap it up snug but not tight with cloth or gauze, like a bandage.

even plain ordinary duct tape can keep a broken limb in place untill it heals. i prefer gauze or cotton to bind broken or split limbs, sticky stuff can strip tissues away when removed, and anything rigid (like duct tape) can girdle a plant as it grows.

your plant will be ok, but if you only have 3 feet of vertical space, youll be budding very little dope. to make buds the plant will usually triple in height. if you got 3 feet of space then you need to flower before she reaches 12 inches. topping and training can get you more buds with a shorter plant but if your at maximum height you have no room to flower there. take her to a full height closet or a ghetto greenhouse (water heater box on the porch)

Here is a picture of the entire plant. I had started trying to train it, quit when it split so only half is tied down right now.

The above shows where on Ms Dumpty the tear occurred. For perspective purposes.

The last picture is Ms. D. after surgical repair of her evisceration.

I have some cheese cloth, or tack cloth actually, unused from my refinishing furniture projects. One of dozens of projects I have going on. The tack cloth almost seems like it has something in it that makes it slightly damp and sticky feeling, I'm not sure. But it says its just cheesecloth. Anybody know? Otherwise, I have plenty of gauze. Which would be better to use? I also have home-collected honey given to me by my cousin's husband. They live in southern France not far from Lyons and beekeeping is his hobby. Not sure I understand the attraction, but we need more bees so "vive les apiculteurs". Therefore my honey is not only 100% organic but its even French organic..... imported illegally (undeclared since agricultural products are prohibited, always have subscribed to philosophy that its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission). Ms. D should love it, you know how women swoon over the parlez-vous's.

No, I have more height available. The ceiling is adjustable. Everything is hung from the clothes rod in a closet so that is my limit as far as height, including the ceiling (plywood panel) covered with mylar with holes for the lights to hang through. I could even go to using the shelf above the rod if I had to, but it would mean a little extra work installing some hooks to hang things.

The adhesive problem is the reason I used painter's tape. I had considered duct tape because its stronger but I figured painter's tape would be easier to remove. It doesn't damage painted walls so it wouldn't damage the stem too much. It sounds like I did something that wasn't too wrong......

Later tonight I'll remove the painter's tape and retape with some honey and gauze. I got an idea. How about if I bind it with athletic wrap (e.g. for wrapping ankles) and a metal clasp, on top of the gauze. (I wish I had some of the adhesive wrap they use in medicine...... maybe I'll run out and buy some.) That gives it support along with some give.

Thanks. Really appreciate hearing the encouraging news. Mine isn't that bad, more down the middle. Phew!

Hey, isn't this the kind of positive responses we should be demanding in return for the forum subscription fees we pay?
