Default How to transfer my seedlings into hydroton for hydro system.

Please bare with me, I am completely new to this. I started my seeds in peat pellets. I need to transfer them to my bubbleponic system but am not sure of how to do this. Questions: Can I rinse off the peat and only use hydroton as my grow media or can I leave the seedlings in the peat? Do i use nutes now or later? My plants are about 2 1/2 inches with one small set of leaves, 1 week old from germination. I'm using (2) 50 watt induction grow lights. Any help on this process would be greatly appriciated.

You can leave them in the peat pots they will be ok mate and I wouldn't nute yet wait till they tell you they need food nd then give 1/4 strength nutes

Yes less is more.. I use rapid rooters as peat pellets have tend to make mess in water if they break open.

The plants are still a mite small. Wait until the plants milk leafs start to yellow before introducing nutes. Have no fears about transfering plants that are in pellets or soil, into net pots, I do it all the time. I give people heart attacks when I throw a plant with a root ball covered in soil into my hydroton. I have one of my totes, that I've run for two consecutive grows without changing the rez. theres still shit floating around in there, but the plants are rockin and have a week to go. If I can be of assistance PM me bro.

Thanks Chickengutz. I appreciate the feedback and will most definitely PM you if anymore questions arise. And how do you go without changing the rez? That does kill your plants? What type of water do you use.

I use tap water. Every Nutrient maker will tell you that you have to change out your rez every week. It just makes sense for them to tell you to dump their product down the drain and buy more. Even Lucas, (if you don't know who he is, find out bro), has stated that scheduled rez changes are unnecessary. I like to experiment, so I'm doing a second consecutive grow just to see the negative impact, and guess what? Thats right. no negative impact. I got about a week to go and everything is coming up roses, so to speak. I am not "down" on anybody who wants to pour money down the drain and spend hours going through the hassle of doing constant rez changes, it's just not for me. I've only done about 12 to 15 grows without changing my rez, maybe I've just been lucky..., and then maybe I have never been given any scholarly reason, backed up by definitive proof that you have to. I have a background in wood science and botany that precludes me from taking anecdotal advise without experimentation. It is this same reasoning that keeps me from adhering to the "rinse-repeat" command on my shampoo bottle. Once seems to do the job pretty well and no one has ever told me "WOW, it looks like you only shampooed your hair once, you forgot to repeat.". I do a lot of things in an unconventional, or counter-intuitive style, but I am only interested in results, not approval from my peers. All I can suggest is, gather information, and trust your gut. There is a lot of what I call, "conformation by repetition". If one person says something and it's seconded by another, then all of the sudden it is believed as fact. Lots of good advise on this site, lots of bad too, trust your instincts.

rinse-repeat with shampoo drys out your hair and causes split ends. It's bad advice from the manufacturers to increase sales. I change my reservoir once a week. By the end of the week, the PPM has dropped to 150(700 scale), so there's not much nutrient in it anyway. If I mix it to the manufacturer's directions, it burns the plants. 1/2 to 2/3 strength is plenty.

@ chickengutz thanks for the advice; I can tell we will have lots of conversations in the future. And to Red1966 thinks I'll start my nutes at 1/2 strength and see how that goes.
