Advice needed...

1000W HPS/MH light, 4x4x8 closet... whats the best set-up? soil/hydro? want best results. Let me know any ideas! Money isn't really a problem...

P.S... Start from clones.

In that small an area, make sure you have really good ventilation if your gonna use 1000w lighting.

uhh with good ventilation hydro is the way but soil is kinda easier.

I might be able to work in a bigger space, but I will for sure have it well ventilated. Im thinking of going with the DIY waterfarm because I like the idea of 5 gallon buckets.. bigger plants bigger yields.. but i could also go 5 gallon soil as well...

I started with soil because I heard it was easier. I'm glad I did after seeing all the problems people have had with hydro. I think I will try a hydro grow after a couple more soil grows.

for what it is worth, i started in hydro and really like it.

im thinking the same... i've done soil grows before and I feel comfortable enough to take care of my babies and give them the proper needs. So with that said... Whats a good hydro set up i can use? How would I use 5 gallon buckets with a flood tray? or would the waterfarm DIY work better?

I recommend DIY but i know unless you have at least seen how a hydro system work it can be kind of daunting. But there are some awesome DIY'ers here at RIU - i'll point you to their links and they can probably help walk you through any snags or details that are unclear.

You should also (shameless plug) check out my grow journal (in my sig) i am also using a 1000w of light (i use both MH and HPS through the whole grow) in a similar sized space. Though my aero system is not DIY

I've actually already taken a look at it and its very nice, but i would like to grow 6 plants. I see that you have 4. I have my medical license so I would like to grow all I can with the best results. Thanks for the ideas

right - it has space for 6 put i only started 4 and 1 died - so i ended up with 3. the other aero systems in those links are scalable 4, 6, 8 whatever.

cosign with email..... he gives great advice....if you listen to him very carefully, you wont have to ask again.... he's very anal about detail. and i fucking love it! thas my buddy

Thank you guys for all your help! If i used a simple 6 site bubbler in a 30 gallon tub or whatever they are, what size plants - buds, am i looking at with the 1000W? I think i would limit their growth if i threw them all in 1 resevoir. Thoughts?

no you wont limit growth


it varies on how much weight you'd get. optimal conditions must be met to get max yield!

Hydro is the way to go. Its not that hard just add the nutes. Plants grow faster.
I agree with that previous post in reguards to heat. When you look at reflectors look at cool tubes.

I use waterfarms and they have been pretty good. The only problem I found was when you get a couple monsters in the group they use up the nutes faster. I converted mine to mix the nutes.

Bubblers are a great way to go to. although you can always add an airstone to the bottom of the waterfarms and drill holes in the bottoms of the growing chambers.

wow, i really liked your journal... looks like the outcome i want to have was it worth buying the actual waterfarm? or do you think i should build one? I'm not very experienced with building but with directions I'm bound to get it done.

whats a reliable brand for lighting that also has reasonable prices? 600-1000w? 6 plants in a closet.... what do you think

Keep an eye on the height 6 should work in closet - if they are very bushy 3 or 4 would do the trick - depends on what you're looking to get.

I paid a lot for my light so won't comment about that.

I understand you get what you pay for though, so I don't mind paying a lot of money for the MOST important thing in the whole grow. I need a light that will just plug into a regular household plug... which i have no idea the voltage? A little help would be nice I really want to be successful and dont mind what it takes!
