RE: Fox Farms Owned by Monsanto?

Emailed Fox Farms asking cause I couldn't get anything definite online, here's the response.

TLDR: They're not owned by Monsanto. I like FF and think it's bullshit people are saying this about them cause from what I can tell, they're an awesome company with a great product and treats the environment with the respect it deserves. Which can not be said about Monsanto.

Hello ****,

Thanks for contacting FoxFarm with your concern. The rumors you are referring to are simply that – just rumors. Basically, Scott’s published a statement several months ago that they were interested in buying small soil and fertilizer companies that focus on hydro stores and independently-owned garden centers. This allows Scott’s to enter a market that normally they wouldn’t be accepted in. FoxFarm happens to be a company that sells exclusively to both hydro stores and independently-owned garden centers. So, when this article came out, we became a target. We know that there are rumors circulating that we are one of the companies that Scott’s is buying, essentially tarnishing our reputation as a small, family-run business and giving our competition an extra foot in the door to market their products. As I said, these are all just rumors; FoxFarm has not sold to nor has any plans to sell to Scott’s, Monsanto, or anyone. We will continue to make the highest quality soils and fertilizers available, and we will continue to be a small, family-run operation.

Thanks again for your concern and interest in FoxFarm. Please let us know if we can help in any other way. Have a great day!

This is a baldface lie, wal mart has been carrying foxfarm's products for a while now. Not saying they don't make good stuff, but they support the company that puts those "Independently-owned garden centers" out of business. All the while, telling people they sell exclusively to the little guy.

Actually, it's sold online through Walmart via an agreement with the e-commerce site Wayfair, which is an independent company.

that is sold & shipeped by Wayfair.
none of the fox farm line is in store.
Ah, okay, I missed that. However, Wayfair isn't any better than Wal Mart. It isn't a hydro shop, or an independently owned garden store, it's a multinational corporation that puts them out of business. Their implication that they are out there to support the little guy is still a lie.

Ive only seen those little happy frog and seed starting mixes from fox farm like for azaleas and like specialty flowers it only makes sense for fox farm to sell those specialy made things for old people plants at wal mart not every old guy knows about the hydro store. I havent seen any bag of ffof or any of the nutrients in any of my wal marts. I like fox farm ive used all there nute lines for my bud but now im trying to grow all organic so the left over nutes will get used on some vegtables and other stuff. A few months back i heard about that with FOx Farm and Scotts wanting to get into the medical marijuana business hope its not soo these big ass companies dont give a shit they will just throw there shit together without research most likely i hope no one buys there shit.

You're forgetting fox farms is kind of the little guy, compared to other soil and fertilizer companies out there. I think they've done a pretty good job keep their product out of big box stores so if people want to purchase them in person, you gotta go to an independent grow store or hydro place. Online is a whole other ball game all together.

Do you buy nutes/soil? Or do you do it all DIY? If you do buy soil/nutes, what brands do you prefer to buy?

Personally, I rather do DIY and organics, but I don't really have the savvy right now, and I live in a somewhat small apartment.

Unfortunately not everyone goes further than reading about it on a forum. Some of them just read the rumor, and continue to pass on bad info when it comes up. Like yesterday, that guy made a point to say "i wouldn't buy ff cause it's owned by monsanto", which just isn't true, but he still regurgitated it like it was a fact (and that wasn't the first time I've seen someone do that, that's how I first heard the humor after all).

Just hoping a few people may see this thread and realize it wasn't the case, is all.

Ummm...have you heard the song "Closing Time" by Semisonic? It is very sad what happened, but someone somewhere uploaded the song as "Closing Time" By Green Day...and everywhere you googled it would tell you that Green Day did that song...what makes it sad is that "Closing Time" was Semisonic's One Hit for their wonder...and it was stolen out from under them...
You could find the truth but only by going to Green Day's website and looking at their song list..."Closing Time" is not listed...anyway it is all righted now...but I was horrified when a friend argued with me about who did the song, and when I googled to back me up it failed me man...I looked like a jerk...she just thought I wouldn't admit I was wrong...and then I had to sift through all the internet crap to try to find the facts of the matter...and i finally did, but she already thought I was a weirdo, but that is awful..I mean it can really cause some issues...
Too many take information as it is given without every questioning the sources cited

I always assume that other people are wrong and I am right, and that leads me to research a good many things...so people that keep reposting incorrect info can really eff me...then again, analyzing everything I come across online keeps me sharp...so I guess keep 'em coming...I will continue the fight on misinformation!

OMG I do that! LoL. I will fight to the DEATH when I know someone has the wrong information. And then everyone is looking at me like "ooookkkkaaaaayyy". You should have seen the tussle I got into over the Simpsons...

It's more the fact that they imply they're a highly exclusive brand that markets solely to smaller businesses. I'm all for the free market, it's deceptive marketing that bothers me.

I want to get into DIY for my hydro. For now, the GH Maxi line isn't too bad though for non organics. Cheap, balanced, and I have never had PH problems other than due to my own negligence topping off the rez on a hot day. I have some happy frog soil I'm trying out for my outdoor, seems to be pretty good so far. I'm using the generic brand organic amendments from my local feed and garden store outside.

apartment living is rough on a gardener, i know that feel bro. in california apartments rent for as much as houses, if you dont have to be in town, check the real estate outside your city. you may just find a nice house with a yard for less money, even if you gotta drive a few miles to work (i drive 3 miles from garden to job in city) a motorcycle makes this actually fun. (45 mpg in city)

dont be despondent, theres always next spring too!

Fox Farms... FoxConn... FoxHound...
I'm starting to see a connection here
keep the nuclear waste away from fox farms, it's a ploy for Foxhound to establish a monopoly over nuclear waste so the DARPA chief doesn't know that Metal Gear will have window boxes...
Adam CROOK? Yeah right. All I read is "Revolver Ocelot"
