Crop or Top? Got a Tall Girl in the Tent

One of the 5 girls in my 4X4X8 grow tent has grown twice as tall as the others. Her top parts are crisping on the cool tube and her sisters are too far from the light (1000W HPS). They've been in bloom light cycle for about a week, no flowers showing yet. I'm concerned that if I crop her, she'll block light from the other girls, and if I top her, I may be losing some good bud. What do y'all do when confronted with this situation? I'm a noob, glad for any and all advice. Thanks!

you need a taller tent for that puppy...next time start 12/12 earlier when you have triple the height of the plant left to go...

She is still going to want to grow her ass off in height for a few more weeks...only thing you can do is tie her branches down off to the side at this point, but you are going to be battling it quite a bit ;)

Well, I can't make the tent taller , so I guess it's my day to practice supercropping. Thanks, y'all!

You gotta bend it...
but be carefull not to snap it...
Pinch the main stem at the spot youve picked best to bend at..
(its more of a squeeze, than a pinch)
So pinch it multiple times between your thumb and forefinger, you will start to feel it getting more and more plyable...
So after you keep Pinchin, start to pinch and bend it a lil at the same time..
by now it should be plyable enough to be bending over on its own...

these are the only pics i could find...

i have ur problem sometimes as i grow from seed and though there in the same packet the diferences r massive sometimes, right now i av 2 skunik#1 on the go almost finished, the tall one is 4ft plus the other 2 ft i built i separate space now for flower as tents av there limitations for hieght n width etc, dont get me wrong i av done well from me tent but now i just veg in it ! i was considering unrapping the tent keep the frame for lights fan etc but then i cud of lifted it up off the floor by 2 ft to give me the hieght i would of needed, just av no floor in ya tent and lift it up though u will av a 2ft gap allround the bottom so it wud need to be in a darkened room to work, but other than that man hang ya light off ya cieling enclose the area with some white reflective plastic untill there finished then on ya net grow go 12/12 earlier like massah says, just imagine ur plant will tripple in size onced flipped then math up ya space that u av left this way u no what size is the cut off,, in my case in a tent same as urs its 14/16 inches then flip, coz tripple that hieght i u still av enough room as not to burn them, the smaller ones will av to be lifted up to the hieght of the bigest one for a evenish canopy ! good look in whatever ya do but ya poor gal is hurting, lol, peace out man !

Thanks, guys, for the excellent info. F1, it never occurred to me to just take the bottom out of the tent and raise it up...I'm just not sure if I have the heart to do that while it's still so new:sad:. And next grow, I won't leave them in veg so long...newbie mistake, I figured bigger is better without allowing for growth during bloom. Anyway, for now I guess I'll supercrop the giant lady - and if they all seem to be outgrowing the tent, it might be time to take the bottom off and raise her up. So much to learn; I'm sure happy to have you guys around with words of wisdom:!:

if you have room just tie the top down so you can get your light closer to the other plants

This is my first grow; the fact that I've even gotten so far as to have a problem with plants that are too big is very satisfying. That said, I puckered up and went ahead and supercropped the tall girl. Boy howdy, it's hard to deliberately damage a plant that you've been loving and nurturing for two months:cry:, but now I have a canopy that's nice and consistent in height, and very dense. That's a SOG, right?

Now that the canopy is level, so I was able to move the light closer as you suggested.

While I was supercropping I noticed that there are buds popping up all over the branches that I was bending. I topped this girl pretty aggressively a while ago - it that why there are so many bud sites now?

Anyway, thanks to all for the help. Will post some pics today or tomorrow.

Ciao!:peace:

You have a ways to go for SOG :) it's a great method of canopy control but it takes a while to master. Personally, I would recommend for a tent that size to use scrog which uses a fence or screen. It's easier to manipulate and actually works better in a space that size.

And wow! I know what you mean about intentionally damaging your plants lol. I couldn't top my plants until my third time growing lol.
