Distance between plants and Pot sizes

Hello,
I have a question that needs answering, so if you can help I really appreciate it. Can clones be put into large pots after they have rooted for the first two weeks? and also is 1 foot between the main stem of one plant to another enough distance for growth?

Thank You

It's not wise to put any plant straight into a large pot from a rooting cube (regardless of what anyone on here does and says, they're mostly newbies and don't know what they're doing). You need the root ball to develop properly and that means keeping it small and tight in a smaller 4" pot for a couple of weeks. If you put it straight into a large pot the central taproot will simply grow straight down to the bottom and then out instead of working its way out slowly from the root ball that has already been developed. The plant stays healthier and grows quicker with a properly developed root system.

The usual rule of thumb is one per sq foot, but it does depend somewhat on the strain and whether it's indica or sativa dominant, Sativa's tend to grow tall and spindly, whereas Iindicas short and bushy.

that sounds about right because most videos that i've seen they transplanted thier clones from smaller pots to bigger ones but i just don't know if i have enough space. i mean this is a garage op and i'm thinking about 2 tents for vegging and budding the tents are 6x6 so thats 12x6 side by side and i'll need more room for 4" pots if i'm going to plant the clones in smaller pots before vegging... this will make things harder for me, hmmm, I'm trying to see what i can do to save some space or something....

does anyone know that when certain marijuana "companies" sell clones, have they already rooted them so that they have a root ball and are ready to be transplanted in large pots?

I don't know of any online places that sell clones. I've heard of people buying from local guys but I've generally heard awful results. They usually seem to come with diseases.

As for babygro's advice to stay in the 4" cube until ready to move...he/she's dead damn right. Someone told me to stick some little clones in 1" cubes straight into hydroton pellets and I've had nothing but trouble with them since. +rep to babygro

Cheers Pengy, it's nice to know my advice is appreciated by someone despite it not being the person it was aimed at.

he's referring to the +rep I gave him. It ups your status on the board. You award rep by clicking on the scales in the upper right hand side of your post.

You may want to consider another small tent at some point and use it for clones and vegging leaving you the other two for flowering. If you alllow for room inside the tents to move around that will give you about 16Sq.Ft. of space. And lets see, 16sqft divided by one sqft thats 16 plants per tent X 2 tents or 32 total plants. From experience that is plenty to start with.

i've ALWAYS went from cloning plug to 6" pot. i WANT my tap root at the bottom. that's where the water goes. the tap root will grow down AND out. the more you transplant the more shock you are putting on them. each time you transplant you slow growth. i've put 6" clones outside in 7 gallon pots. no transplanting.

Yes I was thinking about doing that and I am most likely going to do that. do you think a florecent light will be enough to grow a clone from 72 plug tray to six inches tall in a six in pot?

probably not one fluoro bulb, but with a couple, sure. remember keep them around 1" or closer to the plants.

so you think that after I have rooted my clones i can transplant them in a let's say 3.5 gallon pot? because if so that would make things so much easier... I mean, come on, their just plants and I have already rooted them...I'm thinking about watering the soil in the pot with quick-absorb nuts (very weak nuts) and then transplanting and watering some more with nutes again....

i have in the past with no problems. do not keep the soil over moist. on the dryer side is better, this will cause the roots to seek out water and fill the entire pot in no time. transplant shock has stunted my plants up to 2 weeks in the past. they just shut down to recover. all the energy goes to recovery. can't be good.

what you say makes sense...I've taken two years of biology at uta and that seems to me to be a stimuli that causes such response from a plant...I mean the lack of water and the growth of roots to increase the surface area in search of water....

thanx for the advice
