Lighting question, cfl's or 100w hps

im planing my guess you could say second grow i need to flower some of my mom's but was wondering if i should use 6x23w cfls on a bathroom fixture with 3 y connectors total wattage in cfl lights is 138 watts i also have a 100w hps security light but was wondering which will give me the best yield and stay cheap on the electric bill. any thoughts and opinions would be great.

search function is your friend. I think that the hps is alil more efficient, but you'de also need more ventilation with it because of heat. I don't think using bath fixture or y connectors makes a difference on energy. Might be better off using y connectors so you can have more adjustment.

I am going to respectfully disagree. A 100 watt hps isn't powerful enough to create a heat problem. If I were you I would run a timer to a power strip and plug all the cfl's for supplemental lighting with the 100w hps for the top of the colas. This amount of wattage won't create much of an increase on your energy bill. I estimate it might raise it 15 to 20 bucks a month tops.

yeh run em all a 100 hps is basically not good 1 gramme per watt for a EXPERIANCED GROWER a novice prolly get half that so less than 2 oz not with it! get a 250 hps or 250 dual spec cfl

or do like my man says run em all put the hps above and get a shed load more of the cfls and have them as side lighting ect

The most economical (in the long run) way to grow weed for yourself at home is to do it for the lowest possible cost per ounce, right? But it gets more complicated and that's why newbies have to decide between this or that system and this or that light. I find it boils down to two main factors - ability to make an initial investment, and ability to deal with heat. If you can afford it up front, a good hps of say 400w and a digital ballast will be more economical over time because it produces more light per watt and it will produce more bud too. If you can't afford it, then think about cfls. My point here is, don't even go cfls if you can swing the hps, because they will bring you more hassle and more cost, but less bud over time.

As for heat, that may be a downside for the hps. How hot it gets under that light will be a direct function of the temp in the room around it. If you have your grow in a closet in a bedroom, and you know that room will reach 80 degrees, its not a good grow area especially for an hps. But if you can keep that bedroom in the 60s for the whole grow, whether by climate, season or AC, a 400 watt hps in a closet will not cause you a heat problem. Of course the closet has to be open when light is on, and you have to have an airflow into and out of the closet.

MY CUPBOARD(WALK IN) is 8ftx3.5ft x ceiling height

i ran a 600 hps and had 1 4 inch rvk extractor in the ceiling going into the attick lights on was 28-31 lights of was 21-23

if i wanna go cfl thers real not point in bying the little ones ure best of getting the dual spec 250 watt or a couple or use both use the hps above and cfls at the sides but i wouldnt do more than1 plants with the lights uve got

me personally im veging with a 250 hps and flowering witha 600hps AND NEVER HAVE THE BALLAST IN THE GROW ROOM they do increase ur temp a LOT
