bud rot

but rot is usually caused by the "botrytis" strain of mold, commonly known as "gray mold". infected areas are -- you guessed it -- gray. as a progression, it seems to go from yellowing -> brown/tan shades -> gray "fluff".
the finicky part is spotting it, because the badly infected areas tend to be in the heart of the bud (ie. not visible from the outside). i find that there's an accompanying moldy smell, but it's hard to describe if you've never smelt it.
if you go to pull an out-of-place yellow leaf and it comes off a bit too easy, try inspecting the surrounding area. if you have high ambient rH in flower and a strain that produces dense buds, keep an eye on your top colas.

If you see brown, off looking leaves from within buds this is an indication. Buds will then turn to brown/grey mush and fall off. This starts from within the bud at the stem. Stems will have a cobweb like substance. This is the mould. The part of the bud closest to the stem will rot first. The stems turn brown and soft. You may also see lacerations to the stems/stalk.

If you find bud rot, take it from a guy that knows, kill your lights and harvest.

indeed. shit spreads like wildfire.

also, to the OP: if/when you remove damaged/dead leaves, pinch them off or cut them at the base of the leaf blades, preferably leaving the cut end outside the buds, as opposed to pulling them. when you pull, the incision ends up inside the bud and the surrounding conditions can up the risk of infection....

It does spread quick.

I lost around 3-4 ounces in 7 days because I thought I could beat it. I managed to save 12.33oz of dry cured bud. But it should have been more like a pound or slightly more that I had cured. It was a lesson learned about RH during flowering. Since this time I've bought a dehumidifier.
