Well last thurdays I was at the walmart and picked up a jiffy germination kit for like $2. I tossed a bunch of seeds in the pods that I had around. i did not germinate them like I normally would (Paper towel and pastic bag). I just placed them in the pods. Well I had them on my table for most of the weekend. I did not have any real lighting around and figured I would do it to see if they would even come up. Sitting yesterday afternoon I rememberd I had and old fish tank lamp that was supposed to be daylight. And I had a light over my washer machine in the basement. The one in the basement stated on the build (Cool white). So I figured I would give it a shot. I took my cooler which is all white inside and placed both the lights over the top on an 18 hour timer. Everything was completed yesterday around 6pm. I wake up this morning and this is what I have. So I'm a happy guy. Most of the seeds have germinated and the others I am able to see them starting just a little under the dirt so I can figure they all will germ. No its off to the depot to make 100% sure I buy the correct lights.

Ok I got the lights (40 inch warm white and cool white, 40 w fluorescent, thats the most I could get at the depot) and a fan. I also put in a thermometer. A couple of questions.

1) How hot should it be in the cooler? Right now the reading is about 65 degrees and the lights have only been on for a few minutes.

2) Water? Right now they are under the tent and it's producing condensation. Should I wait till they all come up before I water? Also how many times per day 3? I presume with a spray bottle. Also should I place nutts in the spray bottle or wait for them to grow a little more?

3) Fan. The fan I have is a little 7 inch and only 2 settings (low and high). It's currently moving air. I figure I should not have the fan directly pointing at them as it would be like gail force winds to the little guys. Does the placement look ok?

They tend to hold onto alot of water, I lost a few batches in those jiffy pots. arethese the 'instant pots' that expand when you soak them? just be forewarned, they tend to hold onto water and the roots can't breathe right (mine didn't they all died; 8 plants) rockwool really is the best, but I guess you use what you can. get lights down no more than 2" away from top of plants. use a fan to strengthen stems no fertz for first 2 weeks, just water every 3-4 days DO NOT OVERWATER!

how much lower does your temp go with the lights off? around 70 with lights on. no less than 65 with no lights. any colder stresses them, trust me, I'm growing in an UNHEATED basement. it's a constant struggle to keep them warm under fl's! lol (dehumidifier exhaust = 68 degrees so with a fan...)

I stopped at a couple of local garden places today and they did not have shit. Their excuse, "it's not he season for use to sell that stuff." I told them "If it's not the season, then why keep a garden shop open?" I got a funny look from the guy. I want the rockwool, if I can get it. There is a hyrdo shop here about 1 hour away and I'm going to head over torrow. I really don't want to hit them up as their prices are way out of line. But still can't get anything from the local places here yet. Maybe 1 or 2 months but then it would be to late. I'm going there over the next day or so. I have business tomorrow so I miight not be able to make it. But surely the next day. As I want to get them out of those pods ASAP. Yes they are the ones that are solid until you toss in about 3/4 cup of water.

The temp does not get to bad down there. The lowest I have seen it is around 60 degree, but I duct work has vents for the whole basement and I have had them closed as we don't really use it much for living space. But I could hang out there in a t-shirt and shorts if I wanted.

especially if you have a fan. too. it'll really lower the temp I'm also in an UNHEATED basement and am using my dehumidifiers exhaust (which is a balmy 6 channelled thru a box fan and blown onto my plants. it keeps them warm, dry and have a nice breeze acroos all the leaves

cool man good job so far sprouting those seeds. if you need to build heat try throwing in an incandescent light, I had to put just one in my old grow cab to raise the temps, it raised it like 7-11 degrees f
