this is kinda a long video but it has good coverage on the peat pellets.

nice i get the idea. def sounds like a not bad idea. i will see how the method im trying works out...then we will grow from there.

question. do i want to get rid of all the fan leaves now that my females are actually starting to bud? (:-D pictures to follow) i feel like i should prune them up so that they concentrate on creating buds?

The only time you should remove fan leaves is if you are cleaning up the under growth for air circulation - in which case you clean up the fan leaves as well as all lower shoots/flowers, or if the leaves are diseased, more than 50% yellow, or have naturally undergone the process of cessation and are ready to fall off. Fan leaves = solar panels and generate much more energy than the photosynthetic aspect of the flowers. More fan leaves = more flowers.

yeah what gas said, only reason to trim is if your lolypoppin or ScROGing and you need to trim under the screen. the plant will send the food/energy where it needs it. my first grow i thought it was a good isea to trim almost all the leaves off my plant :wall:

took them about 2 weeks to re grow the leaves to keep growing, ended up harvesting early...just wasnt a good idea. keep them leaves IMO they are there for a reason, remember in nature that plant dosent rely on a human to come "fix" it 1/2 way through its life cycle :)

i didnt take too many of them. maybe 3 from each...they were the kinda yellow ones with a lil burn, so hopefully it wont effect them negatively so much. hopefully. other than that they are starting to look nice! finally starting to bud up.

the clones i am worried about a lil. i took one from each plant, bottom shoots. they were maybe 7 inches long top to bottom. so i trimmed all the side branches off up to the last set of fan leaves, scraped the bottom like 4 inches of the cutling, applied clonex, and planted in damp soil...is the shoot submerged too far? i figured the more area scraped with rooting hormone on it, the more roots would start. also trimmed the leaves of the upper leaves by about half...but not the bottom ones. dumb. suppose i could just trim them now, but what with making silly trimming mistakes already, i am putting my trimmers down!

and here they are!

two nights ago...well days for the ladies ;-)

ok heres the tall first to show female followed by a close of her bud...

and the second to show, bushy! and flower...

oh its day 29 of flower, day 3 of the clones...

it cant be day 29 of flower... i would go by the first day you noticed pistols and not by the day you flipped or you will be harvesting verry prematurely @ 8 weeks. guess it dosent matter as long as you go by wether the bud is ready and not by 8 weeks.

looking great man :)

thanks matt! been awful quiet around here! glad to have some input! yeah i am more just kind of keeping track of when i flipped, not dictating necessarily when flower will be done, but rather how long it has taken. keeping track of the clones so i can know when to take more...one of my clones FAN LEAVES ONLY are yellowing a tiny bit...not yellow yet but lighter green. the other clone seems fine. hoping for them to start showing signs of growth in a week or so...hopefully by when i am to take my next 2 clones...

i am loving actually starting to see flowers. it is SO exciting! hoping cloning will work out for me too...once i get better with growing/cloning, i am hoping to set up my own bubbleponics room. i will build another cab, 4x4x8 foot, get a 1000watt hps setup, and do four 5 gallon buckets, with a 5th as a reservoir...seems straightforward enough. no timers. just gotta upgrade the nutes lol...

nice anxious to see that setuip.

from what i hear 2x 600w is much better than 1x1000w because the 600w lamps have the highest lumen per watt output. (obviously 200 more watts too) but if you can afford it i believe this is a better way to go and you can distribute your light better. im sure its going to cost more tho and i know that has a big say in it.

also with 2 lamps you can run a MH and HPS at the same time, they say dual spectrum is better but they also sell dual spectrum bulbs (im thinking of looking into one myself)

my 400w is roughly 17x20 in in a 4x4 2x 400w may be better.....i dont really know just talking out of my ass like usual

Wow. What started out as a quick breeze through a thread ended with me reading 46 pages. I feel like I know you guys!

Anyway, Thank to everyone in this thread. I just started my first grow last week and learned a lot reading here. It sure as hell felt more hands-on than any guide I've read. I'll definitely be keeping up with your grow.

Good luck!

caught up again :P you seemed like you were a little inactive for a while! good to see the plants looking good. just got my seeds in the mail and almost finished my box. Its 25"X25"X50", i was thinking of just having a mother in there and taking clones... but i dont know if im gonna do that on my first grow or wait till a second grow. but that seems like a decent size for 1 mother. then i was gonna make a box 30"X30"x30" for flowering and just do one cola plants.. thats another options havent decided in full yet just gotta get started and let things happen spur of the moment type stuff.

for the price of cfls bro its cheaper to just buy a hid i was in the same boat and now i got my 400 watt setup for less than $200 espically considering i was running 8 40 watt (150 equiv) and 4 26 watt (100equiv) and 40 watt were 19.00 a piece and the 26 were 12.00 for two so its just kinda worth the investment

i say keep the CFL for vegging and get that HID for flowering...no sense in letting good light bulbs go to waste :)

gamer nice! lol glad to have you along! definitely start a thread and throw it up so me matt n gas can check it out! glad to have been helpful, and certainly feel free to ask me for any advice!

crazed, good to see ya again! yeah things were a lil quiet over the last week or two, awesome to have some people to chat with again lol...anyway sounds like a decent setup you have/will have soon! pretty much exactly how i started just a few months ago! wow cant believe its only been months lol...i have learned SO much from this forum, and would LOVE to help all other noobs any way i can! just keep doin what your doing, you will probably end up with multiple cabs or rooms.

matt, yeah i mean the fixtures themselves would be tight in a 4x4 box, but i think if you could couple them together you could put two inline and just use one large inline fan to push air through them...might be too much of a pain tho...if im to do it in a 4x4x8 cab...anyway i dont know what my situation is going to be in the near future, wife and i are looking at a house and its kinda small, no basement so i may be kinda limited...thats a ways away though.

good to have everyone! im excited to see my girls tonight! they are really starting to bud up, and the clones are still mostly green. got rid of the fan leaves on one cause they were yellowed badly and curling. they were done. rest of the cutting looks ok tho and the other one is fine...hoping to see some growth soon! anyway ill prolly get some pics and share them tonight!

i seen someone who said they make a hood that has 2 bulb sockets in it, Growzilla i think he said....check it out. defo could do 2 bulbs in 1 fixture but would need a second balast.
