I'm am planning my first grow in one half, of a double sliding door, bedroom closet. I plan on putting a cabinet inside one half the closet while using the other side for random household storage. There is currently a shelf and a rod to hang clothes in the closet that would limit the height to about 48 inches. I am considering tearing out the rod and shelf to give me 8 feet floor to ceiling of vertical space. First question is if 48 inches tall is tall enough for a decent grow? I would like to have separate flowering and vegging areas but I would rather not have to remove any of the existing shelving. The space is about 4 feet wide and 2.5 feet deep. My goal is to yield a crop that would allow me to have a minimum of an ounce a month continuously. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the type of light your going to be useing.

I want to use HID's. Or at least I think that's what I want. Probably HPS.

I used a very similar closet, I had a 400w HPS and a few 42w CFLs for sid light.
I kept the 400'ed about a foot above the plant.
