Veg time cycle question

Hi is it possible to do a veg light cycle like, 24/6? totaling a 30 hour cycle opposed to a 24 hour cycle? I bring this question up because I have some ladies in Veg and simply to poke at a subject i have not seen before. :) :joint:

I suppose you could but your plant may well get confused, especially if it's already on a schedule. Plus if you were going to do this then your lighting schedule's gonna change times every day which isn't ideal for checking up on them, especially not if you have a job etc. I mean day 1 if you start your first lighting period at 12pm you can't check on them 12-4pm next day, but the day after that you can't check on them 4-10pm, so if you have a job in which you're working 9 til 5 or even worse a 12 hour shift that brings you back between 4 and 9 pm then you may just find yourself too tired to bother.
To be honest I just doubt that either you or your plant would benefit from the schedule any more than they could benefit from an 18/6 or 20/4.

well instead of the plants getting confused id worry about me getting confused.... i mean say you turn them on at midnight, then off at midnight, back on at 6 am, then off at 6 am, then on at noon, then off at noon then on at 6 pm.... i mean thats screwy, imagine your sleep cycle lol

if you use a timer (which is awesome if your turning lights on and off for months....) youll notice there that a full cycle = 1 day = 24 hours...

i start with a 6500k spectrum bulb (full daylight white) go 24/0 then 20/4 then 16/8 then 12/12 then 12/12 with my HPS light (red - 2700k).

hey there nik17gar..can u tell me does it benefit the plant to work ur light schedule like that? i have my babies under my metal halide 3 weeks now 0n 20/4,when would u consider changing to 16/8,what week? plus i see you said then 12/12 then 12/12,does this mean u put yours on 12/12 still under the veg light, when exactly do u change to hps,i wanted to veg for 7 weeks then put my 600 hps in..so could u give me some tips mate? much appreciated dude +rep for you if you can! :)

well the 24/0 is for max growth. then slowly timing the light back helps keep it from getting droopy, i usually do about 4 days each step from 24/0 -> 12/12. so the total shift from 24/0-> 12/12 takes about 2 weeks. keep in mind its NOT flowering til its at 12/12. so the day you decide to start this, add 2 weeks to start 'flowering" and another 2 weeks to start seeing some buds.
and yea 12/12 under the veg light for a day or 2, and i put in some redder CFLs, then the day i switch to the high pressure sodium, i change the CFLs to daylight ones, so its a nice transition, a few weeks later, they are all red lights.

keep in mind, when you switch from veg to flowering, measure it, if its 1 foot tall there, you can end up with a 2-4 foot tall plant. if its 3 feet tall when ya switch, expect 5-9feet. the reason for this is the plant is like "wtf where did the light go? maybe ill grow taller in case something is blocking it, i gotta find that light again!" and it shoots up, and fills in (gets bushier). this kinda sucks cuz your internodal spacing (spaces between branches) gets huge, and that space is mainly wasted. the slowly backing down of the lights keeps this from getting outa hand.

my first grow, they were about 18 inches at 5 weeks or so when i changed them to flowering, and 12/12, and they ended up a few weeks later about 7feet, i had to tie them down eventually. (or cut a hole in the cieling of the closet they were in, and my gf said no....)

they grow a lot dude. i wouldnt go more than 30inches MAX when indoors, that ceiling will be lower and lower by the day lol.

Ill toss ya a freind inv, shoot me some questions man, i do this about all day, every day lol
