I'm curious how soon you can top? I'm not planning on topping my first plants but I have a test plant to play with. can you top as early as the 2nd node? The big bottom branches have 2 smaller branches comming out of it what would happen if i cut one of the smaller branches off.
I've heard of trimming your plant on the branches the whole way through the grow will make it more bushy and grow more branches and have more nugg spots Sorry i'm pretty blazed and falling asleep so this might sound really dumb |

I have done it like that before... and it will probably work. just get a tomato cage around it before you flower it... but it will slow down your plant to a crawl... and it wont be able to support it self with big heavy buds when you pinch it that close to the base... at least wait until the 5th set of leaves is about to open up. and snip them before they fully develop.

If your growing indoor... Single cola is the way to go. Don't top it unless you have the time and patience. It will take forever trust me... Even though you will have 2 main colas it might yield less than one big fat cola. However, topping outdoor plants will work miracles... it will make your plant a big bush if u top it a few times.
