could you use sand instead of dirt


seems like it could be better maybe not you guys tell me why it might not be or why it could be good

sand is very good with drainage, which is necessary, and i think that's all it's good for. dirt, i believe,is used to hold the water for the roots to drink. too much dirt/water retention and you could be looking at root rot, too much sand/drainage and your plant wont get all the nutes from the water.

yea man i watched that little while ago, i was just wonding if sand could be better or if anyone has tryed it and says it works good or no it dont work dont try it you know thank for the info tho

Sand is good when used mixed with soil to increase drainage as stated. Sand would not likely work well as a medium by itself because it would not be able to get saturated with water/nutes, requiring constant watering/ferting.

so using sand i would almost want a hydro system
