ok I am working on my first grow, I have made all the newbie mistakes overwater, nute burn, strtchy plants because the lights are too far etc.....

I have to do an economy grow setup, so I am doing soil (bad walmart stuff) and some cfls and some nutes, thru it all I have had one plant survive we are at about day 40 24/7 light schedule, it took some time for it to really start growing, once I corrected some of my mistakes, now getting water ph at 6.5 with some dechlorinator in it ( wasnt doing either before just straight from the tap) no nutes because I am using the mg soil with nutes in it, thus the early nute burn, I have the one plant under 4 100w cfls and one flourescent grow light,

My question is I dont know the sex yet, since it is my only surviving plant I want to sex it and then take a clone if its a female, can someone walk me thru the process please, should I flower now wait for it to show sex clone and then go back to veg on the clone and the mother??? help me out guys

Far from expert but here's my 2 cents....

Do you have pics? If you have a place to clone from...Take your cutting 1st. Then flower the plant....Or you can take the cutting then flower the cutting letting the plant continue to veg....Up to you.

Not sure if you were asking how to clone or not...But there are many threads with walkthru's in here. By far the easiest way is to just allow cutting to sit in a cup of water....But that seems to take a bit longer than Im willing to wait.

I myself would take the cutting and flower the plant...If its female...great...You have a mother coming from it.

well i dont know why ur puttin your plant in 24 lighting it should be more like 18/6. If u want to clone and make sure u at least have one surviving, get some root gel and pete pucks or rock wool, then soak ur pete puck or rock wool in warm water, cut ur clone dip the end in root gel put it in ur cube or puck, get a tray with a clear lid, keep them in a warm enviorment and spray them everyday, when the tops start going yellowing and roots are showing out the bottom, its ready to be plnted and then u should have one survivng mother plant

24/7 light is fine, don't worry. The fastest way to sex your plant? Cover one of the branches with a dark as pitch bag and leave it on for 12 hours of darkness, take off for 12. repeat until you see sex on that branch. the rest of plant will be unaffected.

Method 2, keep growing your plant until it shows preflowers (IF it shows them, many do)

method 3. take a cutting off the plant and clone it, once it is cloned then put that rooted clone into 12/12 light until it shows sex

method 4. Take a cutting off plant, flower out main plant in hopes of getting bud and clone out the cutting you took in hopes that mother was indeed female.

method 5. flower out plant until it shows sex, if it is female put the main plant back into vegetative light cycle and make some clones. flower out the clones once they have grown to your liking. Keep main plant as a mother.

Personally I prefer 1 and 5 as it gives you the most options of what to do with the main plant.

just so you know, plants clone fine when taken from flowering plants, they take longer to root, but in the end they grow just like a normal cloned one.
