How long does germination take?

I started germinating my seed yesterday using a damp paper towel which i folded in half and put the seed in and I then put that in between two plates and put in a dark place. I checked today and there is no sign of anything yet. Is this a problem?

depends how warm you keep them. 1-3 days roughly
