I'm planning tow grow two plants using a hydro drip....home depot sells a 6500k 100watt CFL security light for around $40.....if i used one of these lights over each plant, would i get decent results....I dont have room for a 4 foot fixture in my tiny closet

why not just buy a few 100 watt equivalent cfl's for like $25 instead of blowing 40.

well i was thinking that the light fixture would have reflectors in them wich would make better use of the limited lighting......and i read a thread from someone that purchased just the 100 watt bulb thinking he could just plug it into any light socket...he said his bulbs would not light up, leading me to think that the light fixture was neccesary to light a cfl bulb.....home depot sells the replacement 6500k 100 watt cfl bulb for $16...for the same $80 bucks I could get six bulbs....if they work in any light socket i would definately go that route...anyone know

get several daylight 6500k cfls of the highest wattage you can find at walmart or home depot for vegging...
you'll get much better results..
altho these cfl security lights are pretty good for flowering if you change the bulbs to warm white... i'm using these cfl type floodlights with PLC 4 pin bulbs for flowering and theyre workin real nice...
heres an example of mine at work and their results(in my other ghetto grow room..waiting for some lighting improvements at the moment)....The side CFLs supplement the Security light.. the security light has 3 26w 4pin PLC bulbs in it which were daylight 6500k, and i use those for vegging, then changed 2 bulbs to 26w warm white...The 1 daylight CFL was retained to even out the lighting spectrum color to a more natural spectrum

Yes they will go into a normal light socket, Regular CFLs have a built in ballast and ignitor... only PLC 2pin or 4 pin CFL bulbs require an ignitor which is built into the reflector hood.

My suggestion is to use regular cfls to start veg in whatever light sockets you can find...i prefer to use the clip on type so i can move them as required...
at a later date invest in a CFL floodlight for the canopy once you get to flowering stage....I've got several CFL floodlights ordered , cuz i'm amazed at how well theyve worked on my LR2s

No worries bro... if you do use regular CFLs make sure you use a reflector of some description, there's a tutorial on DIY reflectors in the DIY section...Also try to ensure the bulbs are always an inch away from the foliage for the best results..
