This is my first grow and it is still a learning experience. I'm not exactly using high powered lighting (Flourescent tube lighting) but I am getting some decent looking buds with lots of trichomes (the little hairs) which are mostly still white but some of them are starting to turn orange/brown color. My question is, is it true that when 75% of them turn brown that you're supposed to harvest the plant? Does anyone have any input on this so I can makes ure that I harvest it at the right time?

no...not true at all man. it all depends on the strain your growing. Some strains need 6 week some need up to 9 weeks to flower.

The "little hairs" aren't trichomes. Trichomes are the sugary looking things on your buds. Seeing as how you are going with tube flourescents I would probably use 75% brown hairs as a good barometer if they are done or not yet. If you want to get down and dirty you can buy a $10 magnifying lens from radioshack.

oh oikay sorry thanks for the correction... yea they are getting close because a couple of the buds have begun to start turning brown. I have been reading different things on the net and some people even suggest that you should harvest the plant one branch at a time because it matures at different levels. I have a magnifying glass too if that's what you're referring to.

Yeah, if you look in the growfaqs it has a thing on trichome color. Check that out. All depends on what kind of buzz determines if they are ready or not.

I heard around 50-60% is pretty good... now I'm just trying to figure out how I wanna go about harvesting it. The plants not that big and has a small amount of buds, nothing crazy it is my first grow with very limited equipment and space
