Default mold question
My friend and I are doing a first time grow. We have the plants in rockwool cubes and are in a bubbleponics system (we had some help from her older brother). There are some white spore-looking things on the rockwool and so my friend and I decided to use baking soda to combat it. I am afraid that we used too much though. The rockwool cubes were soaked with a baking soda and water mixture. Now the plants are dying! is there anything that I can do to save these plants? In future grows is there anything we should have done differently? Please help! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yah the white stuff is White Powdery Mildew and organically can be treated with a mixture of Nine parts Water and One part Skim Milk(the fresher the better). There are also chemical treatments available online and at your local growth store. And as far as the cubes I would spray them prfusely with distilled water and after most baking soda is gone leave them alone and let them save themselves. But you have to get that baking soda mixture away from your seedling because it will shock and kill them. after flushing them with the water let it dry for a while but do not allow the rockwool to over dry this will cause root rot and shock as well.

Baking soda is an alkali, the opposite of what you want; you want the pH going DOWN, not up. pH shock will kill your plants almost as fast as overnuting them. Flush like crazy and then give them a good dose of acidic water, properly pH'ed to the low end of the tolerance level, probably about 5. You'll probably have some residual high pH in the rock wool and this will help neutralize it and bring it back to what the plants need.
