Just planted 3 seedlings, and will be planting like 8 More tomorrow. Planting them in Red plastic cups. You put the seedling about two inches into the soil root down correct? Also after planting how much if any water to I need to give the babies. Also how long should I expect before a sprout? Help needed! Thanks!~!!!!

did you give the cup some drainage on the bottom? How often depends on the enviornment wait till they are dry but not to dry with seedlings. They have smaller roots to get the water deep down. If they have not sprouted keep the siol moist but NOT SOAKED

I dug them up, and replanted them, I put them about a half inch down and poured water on them. Hopefully they sprout, The others are germinating well and ill plant those tomorrow.

Yeah 2 inches is too deep so digging them up was a good idea. I typically use a pencil and make a small hole just deep enough that I can brush a little soil over the top of the germinated seed. Using this method I have a seedling 1/2 to 3/4 inches in 2 days.

ok so here is what happens... in order for the seeds to grow you must wash away the ABA (absiscic acid). this is a hormone in the seed that inhibits plant growth. the only way to do this is to keep the seed wet. remember not enough to mold the seed but damp enough to wash ABA away. depending on your strain i would keep the room temp around 72-87*F. remember if you don't have the right temp your seeds will either stay dormant (cold) or die (heat). also this particular plant germinates in the dark not light. do keep the room dark if germinating in a cup or paper towl. if germinating in medium (like soil) then hang a few 100W cfl a few inches above the soil until they break the surface (a few day or two if the conditions are ideal) of the medium then keep the lights close and put a small fan at low speed to move the heat from the cfl's sp they don't burn the sporophyte (seedling). something to remember is that the smaller the pot or in your case cup the quicker it will dry out. it is ideal when the sporophyte breaks the surface of the medium to allow the medium to remain dry out for a few hours so the roots streatch to find water. even if you forget to water and the soil is dry it is ok, because the young seedling is going to perk up when you give it more water. just don't let this go on for days because like i said dry and heat for too long kills...
i don't have much experience on this board but i do have a degree in paleobotany. so i hope that means something... though i must admit i work with fossilized plants more than live ones. i hope this helped... and i hope i don't anger the older board members by giving advice like this with a low post record... oh well
