Default Grow Box Design
I have just recently become interested in growing my own bud. A couple weeks ago, my drunk roommate threw a bunch of mids seeds in a jar and threw some dirt on them, and some how they sprouted and we were able to transplant them into individual pots and keep them alive. I also have 2 Salmon Creek seeds (great dank out of Austin) that I really lucky to have found in my last 1/8th. Since both of us have no idea what were doing yet (I’m learning pretty quick cause of this site tho) we decided to keep this crappy weed going to learn with, and save the salmon creek for when I get a good grow box set up. My goal is just to grow 1, maybe 2 plants at a time. I’m not really in it to get huge quantity or anything, just to be able to smoke some nice bud that I grew myself. I have come up with some plans for a box that I think would work quite nicely for a scrog grow and would like to know what everyone thinks, and hopefully get some new ideas on how to make it even better. The box will be made of 1/2" mdf since I have some experience making sub boxes with it. It will be right around 4’x2’x2’ with 3 compartments. The first compartment will be were the plant actually grows. There will be an intake hole, covered by some kind of light baffle, on the bottom. On the opposite side, up towards the top, a vent will lead to the second compartment with a carbon scrubber. The third compartment will house all of the electrical components. I’m planning on using one of the 125W or 200W Envirolites so that I can hook everything into a power strip and plug it in to a wall socket in my room. All of the HID lights I’ve looked at drew too many amps for my circuit breaker to handle like that, and I really don’t want to have to do a bunch of hardwiring for this project. Finally to get to my questions, does anyone know how many amps the Envirolites use? Also, does any one have any good designs on a light baffle? Let me know what you think of my plans, I’m open to any suggestions to make it work better. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

It looks fine to me, but I'd make it slightly bigger all round, say 5 foot by 3 foot by 3 foot.

Use Ohms law to work out the amps on the Enviro's. Ohms law is Volts x Amps = Watts. So a 200w Envirolite on a 115 volt system would draw Watts divided by volts - 200/115 = 1.73 amps.

I was thinking about doing something very similar to this and sticking it in a closet. How hard would it be to build a box like this and how much would the supplies to build it cost?

if you built it out of 2x4's and OSB board, you could keep it around $40 USD including screws and shit. that ain't for the white paint or mylar that you are using. nor light hangers etc...

Im going to use 1/2'' mdf, i think its about 10 a sheet, and its strong and pretty easy to work with. you just need a table saw to keep everything square. this is the parts list ive come up with so far, to make a simple hydroponic system. most things will be bought at home depot and petsmart. only the light, grow rocks, and netpots will be bought at a hydro store.Air Pump-$29.99, MDF-$20.00, Hoses-$4.47, Air Stones-$7.97, x2- 3 inch fans-$35.98, carbon scrubber-$40.00, Light-$150.00, 3 gallon bucket-$5.99, grow rocks-$12.00, net pot lid-$3.89, total-$310.29

Thanks, that sounds alot better than the 12+ amps needed for all the HID lamps ive looked at since where i want it is on the same circuit as a fridge and tv and a bunch of other stuff.

Ok your carbon filter you can build for cheaper just buy some panty hose a 3" and a 4" net pot some activated carbon (found at a pet store in the fish section) a 5-6" hose clamp and duct tape. I can post pictures on how to make one
