Would it help produce more buds, if you trim or cut in size the fan leaves? so you can get more lighting(lumens) to the buds? Im at 3 weeks flowering now. Or how about if you pull all the leaves off the plant so all the buds are getting the most light? Picture of 1 of my plants @ 3 weeks. & yes i have him tied down because of hieght issues, but its working out well, give the other stems more growth..Thanks

No, don't do that. The plant needs those fan leaves, especially the larger ones, to produce energy. If you trim them all off, you might very well kill your plant. Unless you're doing SOG, or a fan leaf is obscuring the amount of light that reaches a bud, I would say leave it. Others may disagree with me, however. You can trim the plant without harming it, but you should look into the matter by searching the forums first.

it just seems very bushy to me, the buds look great thu..im just thinking, if i cut the leaves, more lumens(lights) to the buds?no?

In theory, yes. In practice, no. I personally would only remove leaves that obscured the buds, as I said, because the plant derives most of its energy from those fan leaves. Most of the fan leaves will fall off naturally anyway as you get further into flowering, as it depletes the energy stored in them for bud production. Don't worry.

Im new to all this... but I trimmed all my leaves off after reading that it was the best thing to do (about the same time as you are now). The plants never died but they dont look as big as others on here, but then again it could just be the different strains. Im at about 7 weeks now and they have been really healthy until the other day and now for some reason the leaves on one is turning brown at the edges

hmmm.i guess i should leave it for now. its my first grow, i dont what to fuck around now at the 3rd week of flowering. i will experiment later with the 8 clones i have for the next round,, & yes some of the bottem leaves are dring out and falling off, is that normal? Buds look great thu...

Even though the light is now getting to all my buds, the lower buds are really tiny so maybe I agree and its best to wait.

Yes. This late in the game, it's probably better to play it safe and hold off on the experimentation. Experience beats anything else, and you'll have plenty opportunity to develop your own methods with those clones.

And yes, that's perfectly normal. The plant is concerned with producing seeds, and thus puts a lot more into bud production, sapping energy from the lower branches. In the absense of pollen, this just means you're going to get some larger, denser buds.

Some people choose to cut the lower buds, as they don't produce much and require energy as well. So, in the interest of the developing main colas, they sacrifice the bud down there. Personally, I used to just provide them with more side lighting on the lower branches. This is perhaps just another case of personal preference. I never really saw much noticeable benefit when I snipped 'em.
