Default Grow Room Size
Hello, I've recently entertained the idea of growing my own stash because I'm tired of purchasing pot, and figure the initial investment will be worth the effort if I get a good quality bud and maybe even yield enough to sell some and recoup the investment in the first place. I have a few questions though that havent been answered by the FAQ or other posts that I've searched and I'm thinking they might quash my venture before it even starts.

1. The closet I would be using to grow is 4ft by 2ft by 5ft (L x W x H and that height its taking into consideration I will be hanging a light from rope or chians). Is this enough space? There is no ventilation in the closet, will a fan be enough to circulate air or will the plants die?

2. I plan to use a HPS lightbulb that is supposed to contain enough light from the blue/green/violet spectrum to promote strong vegitative growth and not create a tall spindly plant but still allow good flowering. Are these viable? Should I just use MH and get a combo bulb?

3. I plan to use a 400W bulb, is this adequate for the space I have chosen?

Thanks in advance for the help.

That sounds pretty good to me.. you will have a problem if u dont ventilate the room though, especially with 400W.. if you could find a way to exhaust from that closet, you'd be set.. many people use HPS lights for veg without a problem.. they're better lights for both veg/flower as opposed to MH

you could build a cool tube Homemade 1000w cool tube! - Cannabis.com Forums Message Boards - Medical Marijuana, Cannabis Lifestyle, Weed, Culture, News or you could go with a t5 and not have as much heat

yea, i agree with McLovin

you can even use CFLs (the small spirally ones) mad cheap to run, minimal heat, and the fit into a house hold lamp socket.

if you want to use a 400 watt, get two fans, one on the bottom of the closet, and one on top that cools the HPS bulb

OK so I measured the closet and its volume is 64 cubic feet. Seeing as this is my first time, if i want a fan that moves 192ft^3 per minute how big is it? Will it be noisy? Should I shoot for a more modest 128 or even 64ft cubed per minute, all I really want to do is replenish the CO2 and keep the place cool enough not to damage the plants or start a fire. Another concern I have is smell I plan to perhaps cut two small holes in the closet door one on top where I would put an exhaust fan and another on the bottom for passive intake. Will the smell escape? What about if I have an oscillating on the bottom?. I will post pictures later (and show where I plan to cut these holes) I just need to find the chord to upload them.

Thanks for the help.

You want to move 3x your cubic feet of air to keep the room cool. In my closet (I Own BTW) I have cut an exhauhst port into my attic and have run ducting from my light into my attic.

As far as how quiet the fans are, if you live near a hydro shop you can get the guys to plug the fan in for you. Most of the fans are quiet enough that if you are not in the same room you can't hear them. this also depends on how you mount the fan as with any component that has moving parts, it can vibrate against whatever you bolt it to, that can cause more sound.

Geverally the more expensive the fan in your CF range it will be quieter and have a longer warranty.

Hope this helps and good luck!
