Quick topping question.

So, I'm on my first grow, indoors using Cfl's. I have two plants going right now of just some bag seed. I recently topped one of them, at about 3 or 4 inches tall with about three or four sets of leaves just to see how it would go. (I'm working on limited space and want to keep them fairly short and bushy). I topped about 24 hrs ago, haven't seen any difference, but she is still standing. If she still looks healthy and standing straight, have a done it successfully? Perhaps I'm being impatient? All input is much appreciated!!

She's doing fine. Give it a couple days and you will deff see noticeable growth and you will be happy. I topped mine and didn't think I did it right but now those two are nice, large, bushy branches! I'm glad I did it!

Hey I topped mine and it should look like this.

It took around three days before the new tops grew in. Give it time you should be fine. Next time you ask a question include pictures for people to look at. You will get more responses.

Words of wisdom here..........don't stress on where exactly you trim. Most important, is keeping your plant stimulated with light so as to not go into flowering before you desire them to.

I have "clipped" my plants in all so many ways.....I've ended up with two, six, and even sixteen colas. Experiment.......and happy growing.:peace:

...give it some time. You'll notice where you cut your top, the remainder of the top will grow along with one of the newly directed stems.

Thanks guys. Fast response, much appreciated. I'm working on getting some pics for future threads. Got this iPad n still trying to figure it out lol. Also, while Im getting good feedback.. As a ballpark range, at about what height should I induce flowering? I'd like to keep her about 2 feet or under.. I know it varies with different seeds but I can't imagine mid bag seeds would vary much?they seem to be growing some nice fat leaves.

..."oops"...just wanted to note that when you are growing from seeds, it is ideal to allow it to vegetate long enough before you get "clip happy."

I don't typically attempt to top any less than 3 to 5" (depending on strain). In fact, I usually wait until 6 to 8 inches to top. If you wish to have a plant that is bushier, clip fan leaves at alternating nodes........branching will take place in a matter of weeks, thus creating more bud sites.

I would flower from 8 to 12 inches tall because they double to triple in size during flowering so 8 to 12 inches tall at the beginning of flowering should be good for your height restrictions.

For your first grow and on the safe side, I would suggest six to 12 inches.....provided you have little space to work with.

Just keep in mind that your plant could triple in size. If it reaches 12" before flower, you could end up with a plant that is nearly 4' tall. It really depends on the strain. Big fat leaves indicate you have indica or an indica heavy genetic line that should be more bushy than tall. 4 weeks in veg should be sufficient for healthy plants to begin flowering.

Nice, thanks Eli, haven't found many straight forward answer for this believe it or not. And bags, okay good to know, I felt like I should have waited just a bit longer..have you got or seen any pictures on clipping fan leaves at alternating nodes on here? I'm interested.. Been thinking about this because I understand cfl's don't penetrate very well...?

Yeah I will work on getting some pictures on here soon to be on the safe side and you can tell me what you think.

As a matter of fact. I just read a thread on trimming at alternating nodes but i forgot which one it was. I personally use CFLs too and I trim alot. the light doesnt penetrate well and trimming will give you more colas also because they are the secondary branches that grow right above existing branches.

Also if you are working with height restrictions do a forum search for LST and read about that shit. I would try it if I were you.

I looked up LST, but couldnt find anything on it? What is it, generally, and i'll take a better look. Heres a picture of one of my plants, woke up today and they looked a bit droopy. Any suggestions on why this could be ?? They look healthy for the most part excluding the droopy leaves but maybe i'm just over worried? Sorry if the quality is not good, done with my phone. Thanks for input guys!

yep yep you just tie down the branches so that light can reach deeper and it keeps the plant smaller and bushy and increases yeild i belive
