I would try to grow 6 plants in that area. Get the biggest pots you can fit in there. 1-2 gallon should be fine. A 400w hps should do the trick. To me hydro is easier too and you have more control of nutes. But unless you know what you are doing then maybe soil is better for you. You sound like a smart guy so just read up and make your decision. Either way we can help you through the process.

sounds like my set up is very similar to yours... and im about 25 days into my first successful grow...

your light is cool for 2 plants i reckon in that size set up, i'm using a blue 200w envirolite for vegetative and switching to red for flowering later on but i'm growing shiva for my first grow so isn't auto flowering...

i wish you the best of luck and the only advice i can offer is that the first week is the most important...

after germination, get them straight under lights, but not direct light, also, i found that placing my seedlings off to one side allowed the light to get to the base and produced a much stronger stem. Onve the seedling was well established, then i moved it directly under light and kept light about an inch from top to stop it from stretching, this has produced a nice compact plant so far that is starting to look really bushy...

anyway, my only problems have been with watering and nutrients so do be careful, i'd advise you get a moisture wand and a ph wand to keep your soil and water around 6.5 to 7ph.
