First Closet Grow Room with Mylar

Well Guys, I've been reading a lot on here lately and decided that I would put my project up here as well. Started the germination process last Monday, and it took about 3 days. I grabbed 2 of the good looking seedlings before the rest were done and put them in a Dunks cup. Anyways, I've come a long way from natural window light and dunks cup to this. I've spent a total of $22 dollars so far on lights, y splitters and plant food. The rest of the shit was either in my basement or my garage lol.
So here it is:

We've got good old Mr. Marley hiding the closet door so it looks like a tapestry or some shit on the wall:
1-178-IMAG0062.jpg
Then we start walking into the closet:
1-178-IMAG0063.jpg1-178-IMAG0064.jpg1-178-IMAG0065.jpg1-178-IMAG0066.jpg
Here it comes:
1-178-IMAG0067.jpgVoila!1-178-IMAG0077.jpgThe pots are raised on this makeshift riser (popsicle sticks and mylar tape) to allow drainage, but not mildew from soaking in its own pisses. Let's see, we got the thermo, which reads high temp current and low: (now a nice 74 deg F)
1-178-IMAG0073.jpg
The exhaust pipe lol:
1-178-IMAG0076.jpg
hooked to my jimmy rigged box fan:
1-178-IMAG0075.jpg (why do they call it jimmy-rigging anyway?)
And opted to go with (4) 100watt equivalent cfl system with 5000k daylight bulbs on 2 y connectors
1-178-IMAG0074.jpg
And so thats what I have so far. I'm so worried that the 5 I kinda have left are gonna die on me to, but I assume now that they have a somewhat permanent home and will be left alone from too much moving they will be better off.

Guys is there any thing I can do to ensure life? Or Am I growing MALES? How can I tell. How long should I keep them on the 24/0 cycle?

Oh boy... I just want a successful grow. Soil was checked at 6.3 or so, and I don't know, was I NOT supposed to add the miracle gro plant food?

Anyways.. I started with like 10 seeds, and I burned 1 or 2, broke the very stem of one on planting, so it wilted, as did 2 others for some reason. I buried those in these pots somewhere. A question arises and I was wondering if either of these are gonna make it:

???
1-178-IMAG0072.jpg1-178-IMAG0071.jpg
And its all in a closets day's work (my closet is paying rent now)
1-178-IMAG0078.jpg1-178-IMAG0079.jpg
HAHA jk. this is for personal use and just the excitement of watching my babies grow!

PLEASE COMMENT! I need your valuable feedback. PLEASE let me know if I am doing something wrong or what I can do to make things better.

First off, where the hell are your bed sheets and pillow case......... haha just playing, anyway:

* 4 little CFLs really isnt much for a closet grow.... Make sure you keep the lights 1-2 inches from the plants. (The thermometer is kind of a joke to have in a closet with just 4 CFLs, as they don't really give off much heat at all)

* You can't tell if your growing males until flowering is about start (at least 2 months). You can tell by the seed sacks (balls) males grow and pistils females grow. Just do a search on google or here to see a picture and more detailed info.

* You can keep the lights on 24/0 during the whole vegetation phase. I use 16/8 to save electricity and so at night light isn't pouring out of the cracks. You just wana switch to 12/12 to trigger flowering after you plants have fully grown.

* You should never use any nutrients the first few weeks. Seedlings are very fragile and get all the nutrients they need from the soil. (What type of soil are u using anyway?)

* I'm not so sure about your two babies that already look a little brown and wilted, only time will tell.

Good Luck and Stay Smoking!

the soil. youll probably flip:

yard soil.

i tested with ph kit. it was growing mint and chives. took some and sprinkled the food in last night.

do you think i should scrounge the 4 bucks and get a bag at wally? if so what exact brand do i use? also transplanting : seem to loose a seedling every time. ive never had plants any larger than this before. precautions?
cfls: rooms is 4x3x2 how many do i need? they are ecosmart daylight cfl 1750 lumines 27 watts 5000k

Hey man, found this link on another thread, subscribed. Please also come take a look at my grow, the link is in my signature.

The type of dirt is a highly controversial topic here on Rollitup. From what I can tell, no matter what kind of dirt you use, you need to mix in about 20% perlite. The less nutes that are in the soil, the better. Myself, I started with Miracle Grow, but I'm pretty sure that's what stunted my growth. We are now using FF Ocean Mix and FF Happy Frog, but I realize those may be a little pricier than what you are looking for. Like I said, make sure u have the perlite. I think it's like 5 bux at wal-mart.
As far as lights go, we have 3 cubicles in the room that measure about 4 feet tall by 3 feet deep, by 3 feet wide, so our sizes are pretty close to the same. 5000 is adequate for vegging growth, but 6500 is way better. We built our own fixtures and put splitters in them (pic on my thread) so now I have a total of nine bulbs in the one cubicle, but I also have a total of 8 plants under those 9 bulbs. The splitters work well because you can get 2 bulbs shining on more than one plant at a time.

Our autos are about the same size as ur babies, so I would get your light is sufficient. Especially with the mylar, that shit helps soooo much.

You haven't done your research.

If you use CFLs, read the CFL guide. Read the "how to grow weed" guide. The shit in your thread tells me you're not as dedicated as you're saying.

If you run into some huge problems, RIU members will help you out as will I if I happen to see your thread.

If these die, I'd save up for some proper soil, and read as many grow journals as I can on here. You'll be happy you put in the extra effort.

Ok guys, sorry I have been reading the posts on my cell all day but haven't had a chance to reply until now..
I was reading some articles last night and some grow guides and read that my ventilation in my grow wrong was wrong. I was pulling hot air in. So now I put in 3 pc fans on the top of the ceiling blowing out and one in the door i made sucking in on the floor. I put hinges on the door and a handle so i could easily get inside after moving everything aside:

I was reading DoinIt2Gether's update on pearlite earlieR:

And decided to go to walmart and buy a bag of soil. Not only does have pearlite in it, it also feeds it for me during the entire life cycle of the plant. (6 mos is overkill)

IMAG0092.jpg

And so now all the plant food I put in is gona, and it looks amazing now. they are vegetating very well now:

IMAG0090.jpgIMAG0091.jpgIMAG0089.jpgIMAG0084.jpg

I say, holy crap man this miracle grow does wonders! :-)

QUESTION:
So also, while I was at wally world today i took these pictures and am wondering which one to get and how many more?

IMAG0083.jpgIMAG0082.jpg

Or neither? Apparently one is just larger than the other and lasts longer that's it.

Thanks Grizzly, I tried to find that cfl guide, but I had no luck finding it. I read many grow guides last night and today and realized a lot of the stuff I was doing wrong.. I thought for sure I was gonna have dead babies in no time, but I went from this (wrong [uninformed of knowledge] applied):

IMAG0071.jpgIMAG0075.jpgIMAG0058.jpg

To this (better [more informed of:] knowledge);

Sweet deal man, its good to know you have an eye on things from a distance. And thanks for taking the time to check it out, it must be frustrating being asked a million questions by newbies all day long who just want you to do the work for them like your a

talking text book or something:
Your the man haha.kiss-ass

I was reading DoinIt2Gether's update on pearlite earlieR:

Thats a good start, but the soil you bought does not come with enough perlite in it, you have to mix more in. Additionally, I said LESS nutes is better, so y did u go buy continuous feed? That hot ass soil will stunt, if not kill, ur babies. I know, I potted in MG more than a month ago and lost half my fricken crop. So next time u plant em make sure u mix in the perlite and also put them in 3 gallon containers so this can be the final transplant. I know 3 gallon seems big, but trust me, they will use every inch.

so its been a little while since i've posted anything. figured i'd give everyone an update. .. the babies look really good actually. the miracle grow i gave them seems to be helping a lot. also i went to walmart and bought some 6500k bulbs, 4 and i left one of the 5000k in there as well so now there are 5 lights for the 5 plants.

So here are some pics:

Looking good. Now leave them alone. They will look like they are not doing anything, but they are developing roots.

Stop counting the days. This process is measured in weeks and months.

thanks man! i was so unsure that i would actually have them get this big. every time iv'e ever tried before they die on me. so i think the research and all the help is really paying off! thanks guys.

bonzi, i'm planning on transplanting on monday. is there anything else i should be doing? and how many weeks in until i change from 24.0?

Was this for me? If so, with all due respect, I've done a hell of a lot of research. I've spent hundreds of hours reading different posts in RIU and at least have formed an intelligent opinion.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!

I'm not Bonzi, but i have some advice anyway lol. I would make sure you transplant into pots big enough to go the full run (at least 3 gallon) so that you dont have to keep transplanting. The seedlings should go to 18/6 when they have 2 full sets of leaves (plus the baby leaves) but thats just IMO.

They r lookin good now!

doinit2gether: i think that was grizzly talking to me. now i'm thinking of waiting a few more days until the smaller girl gets some more leaves, but does this one have 2 full sets of leaves plus baby leaves (or is it close)?

Leave them alone. When they are 6" transplant into fianl pot. when 12" go 12/12.

Don't be in a hurry to re pot.

This plant is 2 1/2 months old and still in a 5" pot:
