Can I Clone Cannabis when in Flowering Stage?

Hello.

I am just curious if I can clone my lone "Water Hog" even after it is in flower mode.
It is the only Water Hog I have,...and she is looking beautiful!!
There are a bunch of buds on her, and the leaves are starting to look frosty.
So I know it's gotta be good.

But it's my only one. :( So once I harvest her,...there will be no more to grow and smoke in the future. So does anyone know if I can clone after I have already put my plant into flower mode?

She has been flowering for 3 weeks.

You can always re-veg her when you're finished flowering although you can clone the bottom branches from flowering plants and re-veg them too.

Really?

I can take one of the bottom branches that has buds already on it,...and then just re-introduce it into veg mode by bringing her back to 18/6 or even 24/0 light? And I shouldn't have a problem as long as the roots take hold?

Cuz that would be fantastic if I could do that!!

UpFreeBird you can, and I do regularly, take cuttings during the first two or three weeks of flower - while the plant is still stretching. As the plant ages after stretch the cuttings will get woody and will not root. If your cutting is green and pulpy you have a good chance of rooting.

I find that cuttings root quicker if taken a week or two after 12/12 rather than veg. I read a botany paper a while back on cloning, the author said that it's best to take your cuttings after a long dark period when there is growth of a certain type of cell whose name I forget.

That is fanfuckingtastic!

Now I have a follow up question:
I have tried to clone in the past but was unsucessful, so I am looking for clone tips.

What I did to clone was cut a lower branch at about a 70degree cut.
Then I roughed up the ends a little bit and dipped them in Rootech Cloning gel.
I then put some in a homemade bubble cloner....and some directly in dirt.

All of them died.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Did you keep them in a propagator under a hood or did you use an anti-transpirant spray? They need to be kept nice and moist until they can take up enough water through their stem.

cut a piece big enough that you can cut the bottom 1 or 2 nodes off and place the spots where those nodes use to be into your growing medium. these spots are supposed to root first I've been told. besides that no clue just keep them moist and humid and they should take off. dont rough up the stem to much and make sure you get it into the medium right away you can get a air embolism in the stem which will kill the clone off. kinda of funny now that i think about it because old schoolers talk about getting it right into the medium but hell my aero clones all take and they are exposed to air from day one...

I did not use a humidity cover for my first batch of clones.

But I did just pick up a germination station that has a heating pad and a cover.
I put 36 pre-germinated seeds into it,...and they hit the 2" cover 2 days later.
So I went back to the store and bought an 8" dome.

When I clone my Water Hog,...which will be tonight or tomorrow morning,...I will be sure to place it into the humidity dome.

1. Everything I have read and what I do, is cut them at a 45.

2. Dont rough them up, leave the clean cut.

3. Did you have nutes in your cloner or just water?

I had nute in my cloner, as well as dipped them with Rootech Cloning Gel.

Everything I have read and watched on youtube says to rough them up a little bit.

The humidity cover will help. Same with the heating pad.

I'll be cloning again this weekend. Let's hope they take! I'd hate to lose the Water Hog forever. She is a beauty!

7-10 days for rooting to take effect?
I plan on dipping them with Rootech Cloning Gel,..and then placing them in Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil,...and then putting them directly into my hydrofarm germination station.

i usually dont add nutes until they have developed roots, but some nute manufacturers have a mix ratio for cuttings.

Anyone else have an opinion on the "roughing up" of the cuttings? Maybe I have been doing it wrong, dont think so, maybe mine could be rooting faster though.

3-4 weeks? Holy mother trucker!

I guess I'll just keep em planted until they either thrive,...or turn brown and die.
I should take and post some pics of the water hog when I go home tonight.

In my experience of cloning I've found it good to keep the cuts as clean as possible. The fluffy bits start to rot quickly in the warm, wet environment and slowdown if not stop the rooting process.

Fair enough.

When I make my cuttings for the clones,...it will be a clear and clean cut at a 45 degree angle.
Then dipped in Rootech, and placed in Fox Farm soil in my germination station.

I sure hope this works, cuz knowing I have a guaranteed female, is much better than wasting time and money on seeds, when I will theoretically kill 50% of them cuz they will end up being males.

It will work - and you wont have to wait no 3-4 weeks, I read somewhere they can take this long. You have great conditions for them to thrive and produce roots in a week or so. Just keep an eye on the rh and temp, and make sure to mist them - pref with a foliar spray as the cuttings will not have a root system, they will be able to absorb more water and nutes via their leaves for the first couple-several days.

I use a product called "cloning wax" to spray on my plants to stop them from drying out. It seems to wear off after about a week once they have shot roots. Its good for preventing mold, fungus etc from building up because it doesn't have to be any where near as humid. Its also great if you want to transplant cuttings straight into the grow room on 18/6 as you don't need to use a hood. I still like to foliar feed once a day with a really weak seed and clone/nitrozyme mix just to make me feel like I'm still contributing.

.

UFB with a bubbler I find it important not to have nutes in the water, unless they're made for cloning (not veg or flower) and are used lightly. Even a two inch cutting is fine for two weeks, add a touch of cloning nutes the second week if they're color is fading. The cloning gel washes off, I'm not sure how much it helps in the water.

First time cloning we always want to over-garden. Give them time and a good environment (warm/moist/dark) and they'll be fine. To much nutes can soften the stems.

They should not be directly under the light (40 watt floro is fine) and you should give them lots of dark (18/6 or 16/8 ) - the plant will put more energy into forming roots when its not concentrating on photosynthesis.

.

Roughing up the cutting is called scarification, gives you more places for the roots to start. I use it, it takes care - only scrape off the skin and hard outer shell, as soon as you reach pulp stop. It's easy to ruin cuttings, a sharp razor knife works well.

.

One of the most important things to do is to keep the water constantly warm. An aquarium heater works great, I use a small 50 watter in a 3 gallon bucket. I set my water for 78-80 degrees F.

.

I use net basket and neoprene inserts to hold the cuttings, drill 2" holes in the bucket lid for the net baskets to set in. Cut the bottoms out of the net baskets.
