Default Pre-Harvest to do list...?
Can we talk about the harvest?

So much care and attention is given to growing the plant, but what steps do you take before harvesting - like 3 weeks before?

I've heard:

- Stop nutes for two weeks
- Stop watering for the last week
- Cut the leaves off
- Cut the branches off
- Hang upside down in dark, cool, well-ventalated area.
- Wait... and wait some more
- When the branches snap crispily they are dry and ready to be cured / smoked

Is that about right? What if I stop nutes for 2 weeks, and then I don't water for a week and the plant still needs more time? I suppose I could always just water her again, but am I missing something?

I've never done this before and it's getting close to the time I may need to de-nute my plant....

dude jus dont read too much into it, stoping the nutes and watering isnt even all that necissary. the main reason for hanging is to let the thc run down the plants into the buds and if its too dry before you hang then the thc wont have any moisture to run to the buds and all that lovely thc will be left in the stems. and plus it will dry out while hanging anyhow.

^^^ LMAO ^^^

The theory is, if you flush the plants real well about a week before harvest, you will be flushing the nutes out of the soil and the plant will no longer be taking up nutrients. That is supposed to improve the taste of the finished buds. Just run pure water into the soil until it runs out the drain holes. Do it a few times.

To harvest:

1. Cut the plant at the bottom of the main stem.

2. Remove fan leaves ... and throw them away.

3. Cut all branches off and hang them upside down. Its OK to have a fan blowing a GENTLE breeze in the room.

4. After four - five days, remove all buds from the branches.

5. Put the buds into brown grocery bags and LOOSELY close the bags up. This will draw out additional moisture. Keep opening the bags to air them out.

6. When the buds feel dry on the surface, put them into one-quart glass Mason Jars and put the lids on.

7. Open the jars several times a day to air the buds out. Keep doing this for several days. If the buds feel too wet at any time, put them back into the brown paper bags for a day or two.

8. Once you are sure there is no mold forming on the buds, its time for long-term storage. You can vacuum seal the Mason Jars using one of these. Pump and Seal food saver vacuum sealer is better than Tilia FoodSaver

The buds shouldn't feel dry, like crispy. They should have some "spring" to them. Up to a point, the longer you store them in the jars, the smoother the smoke and the better the taste. Like fine cigars, pot gets better with time if you store it correctly. It kind of ages like wine.
