What would the output be if you had a 400w bulb and a 600w ballast?

would the bulb be run at 400w or 600w?

May seem a silly question but thanks for any replies in advance

lol the output would be a popped bulb. bulbs and ballasts are a match set. with the price of decent bulbs, and the wattage why try to mix match? just grab ya a 600w bulb and grow like crazy

keep a fire extinguisher handy lol
and just wonderin how old is your ballast? and light for that matter?

both brand new

im shocked it hasnt popped yet so congrads on that. but running that many watts through that small of a bulb will surely bite ya in the arse sooner or later. when you over power a bulb it changes the color temp of the bulb and doesnt let the light your wanting out. ive got a buck that says your hps light looks more like a mh. posta pick or 2 if ya get the time. just be careful and my best wishes are with u.

thanx for the pics. notice anything odd??? look at any1 elses hps lights (color wise) yours are no where near that same red amber color. ive got a 1000 hps ballast that i wired up wrong and it looked just like yours. but once i got the wireing right it went back to the color it was ment to run at. its your light so you can do what you want, but just be careful. a few plants arent worth burning down your house, or worse.

i just had a look at your gallery. did you change your lights? your first pic looks right, but after that its turned to clear.

The early pic is how it looks, but that was with a dig camera, the later pics were with a nokia n73 and it auto balances the white.
