I want to grow one plant at first... in a 2' x 3' grow room. Eventually I would like to grow more. About 4 plants.

One thing I am confused about is.. Do I need the extra bulb? And what is a conversion bulb? Would this lamp be enough to grow about 4 plants?

A conversion bulb is a MH bulb (used for veg growing) that fits in a HPS ballast. This will just save you from having two ballasts as the mh has a smaller socket. I would go get a 250w for 1-4 plants.

that isnt a bad deal...except u dont need that if u are growing one plant in a 2'x3' space....unless u have some very good ventilation,that will be way to much heat for that small of a space...you would be better off going with a 400w or 250w light for your grow area....i would personally go with the 250w for one plant and the 400w if u are growing 4 bigger sized plants....250w will be enough for 4 small plants i would say if u had good reflectors and mabey a little side lighting with cfl's

well......they do make t-5's that dont produce much heat, I'm using a couple. I'm not quite getting 1oz /plant. Maybe the next harvest will be. OR you could spend $16.95 for the excellent book by SeeMoreBuds. "marijuana Buds for less" Grow 8oz of bud for less than $100. He shows how he set up for and grew 8 oz of dry buds from three plants. It is available at Barnes & Nobles in the gardening section, ask for help findng it, they will remember they have it, ask if they have plans to carry any of his other books, this will make them think about it. I spent 340 shipped for a 600 watt digital ballast 6" vented hood and a MH and HPS bulb.

I buy my digitial switchable ballast new with cordsets for $119 you buy whatever reflector you want and add it and then you just buy a standard 600 watt mh or hps bulb no exspensive conversions.That ballast is a old magnetic type ballast. The digitals run silent no hum, produce no heat from the ballast, use alot less electricity and give out more lumnes. They also are easier starts so bulbs last longer and dont burn out so fast. The ballast I get are digitally overclocked outputing light equal to a 640 watt ballast from a regular 600 watt bulb.You can get the ones I use at Maryland Hydroponics they also 400 watt digital switchables for $99 but last time I looked they were out of stock

i always trust htg supply, they have a 600 watt digital hps ballast and lamp for 199 plus shipping. here

is that switchable at htg or do you have to buy the 100 convesrion bulb instead of the $40 standard mh 600 watt bulb

I got one off of ebay from htg and I paid 240 for everything and you can change from mh to hps, no extra conversion bulb needed.
600w dig with refl. and bulb cord shipping hps only bulb will have to buy a mh if I want one-
