ok so last week i purchased 3 clones, ive had them a week and they were about 1-3 weeks old when i bought and for some reason they have not done anything i have noticed some new leaves but thats it .. no growth at all and all the leaves look dark dark green ... then when i come onto RIU and look at peoples pics of seed growing the plants look so healthy .. nice lime green color ... anyways this IS my first grow and im not stressin at all, i dont care how much i yeild and how long it takes to harvest... my clones are a lil less than a foot tall and i have one thats about 5-6 inches tall and has not grown an inch since i got her...im wondering if i should of went with seeds for my first grow or am i trippin out, because these clones i got are just sprouting leaves!!!

Yeah, man no worries. Just relax a little. First of all do you have any pics? Also, are you running hydro, soil, what's your light setup, etc. I wouldn't stress at all. First of all with this being your first grow you're going to see a lot of things you don't understand why they are happening.

While I can't be certain I would imagine the plants are a little stressed. You purchased clones that were growing in environment A and you moved them to environment B, I think they are just a little stressed. Give the roots a little time to settle in and the plant to adjust to it's new surroundings and it will start jumping again. Now, if you have yellowing leaves, burn spots, color changes, etc. that's probably something we need to discuss. If you're really concerned post some pics and let us take a look at them.

Nah.. you're trippin'. It takes a week or so for clones to "take" -- sounds like they're doing that.

Dark green leaves can be either a plant very enriched with N (good as long as you don't tip over into too much), or a strain thing. Some strains are just naturally deeper or lighter. Light strength will also drive this -- more light = deeper green.

I go from seed because I like the whole process, and I'm starting to get into breeding, too. But clones are superior if you want genetic consistency and shorter time to yield.

I've grown clones and seeds side by side. Under the same conditions they grow the same. One problem with seeds is you don't know what you're going get in terms of sex and phenotype.

We really need to know what kind of setup you have (Lights, soil, hydro)and what kind of nutes your using.

im probably just trippin on the growth, i have noticed that some of the leaves are getting, what i think is either nute burn(i flushed today) or heat burn, which i doubt cause my light is about 2-3 feet from the top of my plants... ill get some pics up in a couple hours, my setup is as follows

1 400 watt HPS light
fox farms ocean forrest soil
temp in the grow room is usually steady at about 79-81 and humidity is between 39-46 percent

i did however feed my clones the day i got them with half of what the directions said of dynagrow..not sure if it could be the pH as well? i noticed that the Ph dropped in all the pot from about 6.0 down to about 5.0... any other advice would be much help ... like i said ill have pics in a couple hours when my wife gets off work so i can use her camera... thanks in advance

If the seeds were a product of F1 breeding, then they WILL grow faster. This is referred to simply as F1 vigor. The best practice, in my opinion, is to order F1 seeds every year, and keep a seedling as mother. Then clone the seedling all year. If you clone a clone, and then clone a clone, you lose vigor and hormone production is slower...

Its better to clone if you want predictability. If you want to learn more about each variety's phenotypes, get at least 10 seeds. IMO feminized seeds shouldn't be used if you want to experiment with genetics. If you have a bichin' landrace strain and you wanna keep it that way, you'll need males to inbreed with.

That FF OF soil might be a little too rich for the little ones. Some strains can't handle it very well, while others can. I've never had a problem with it, but I've read about others having problems with seedling and small clones burning. It might be a good idea to use Light Warrior next time, then switch to OF when they get bigger and need transplanted.

Man I only grow clones. Never sprouted a seed of anything in my life haha. If you are growing correctly they will take off man. You just don't have that hybrid vigor. Soon enough my friend :eyesmoke:

thats exactly what my grandma said get some other light soil to use until they get bigger, i never thought the soil might be burning the plants!! they are in 3 gal pots... that wont be big enough? i see most people use the 5 gal, but im not trying to grow them 5 feet ... theyre in a closet so i dont think i want to reach more than 3 feet, and even then that getting too big ... but thats just me

Hybrid vigor is a phrase that describes the vigorous vegetative growth of a seedling.

Any strain with stable genetics can have F1 vigor if grown from seed (Assuming it is a healthy seedling).

As you clone down (F2,F3,F4) you lose the vigor a little each time.

Hormones take longer to transpire, etc.
