HUGE newbie question I know. First time grower, so be take it easy guys.

So I am ready to order a ballast and a bulb. Specifically from here:

Ballast: 400 Watt - High Pressure Sodium Ballast - Multi-Tap - Sola #E-971-WDD-SO400 Light Bulb
Bulb: 400 Watt HPS

I should be good to go right? (also, why is one bulb 50+ dollars)

Unless I am a bigger idiot than I thought, I'm ready to go.

miracle gro pottin soil, some buckets n distilled water by the gallons, DER! flourescent workshop light (w/bulbs $15 total for a T12 setup) (7 dolla fixture, 7 dolla for a pair of 40w warm white lights) gogo

XD aside from all that.

So yeah, just a ballast and bulb huh?

Why go that route, for an extra sixty bucks you could get a complete 400w system, how many plants you wanting to grow? you could get a 250w and put like 6 plants under it and I think at least twelve under a 400w.

I don't see a socket in that kit. Most people use a reflector also. Check out HTGsupply.com they have a real nice 400hps for about 140 shipped. Discreet shipping too.

HTG is safe, but if you worry, go to the store and get an american express or visa gift card, no real name needed, and no paper trace, the bulb and ballasts you posted are not made for plants and are just regular bulbs, eventhough theyll work, youll get much more efficiency, better color spectrum and lumens off buying the right bulb.. your also gonna need soil, nutes, a timer, and many other things

get the bulb,ballast,and socket and if your crafty enough(which doesnt take much)can make a reflector for the 400 and then your off,i paid $220 for bulb,socket,ballast,but i went to a hydro shop couse i wanted it right then and there,but you might aswell just order it,if the fella's on here say the place is safe then 99.9 times it is,lol..........good luck,ras
