Default Newbie incorporating nutes into feeding.
Ok well i have a couple questions regarding nutes. Im on my 9th day in foxfarm ocean forest soil and my 3 pack of foxfarm nutes came in. I have the feeding schedule but was wondering if i should be a little slower to encorporate the nutes into feeding. Also i was planning on mixing the nutes with water in 1 gallon jugs. What precautions should i take to ensure the nutes will remain good for future feedings? because i wont use the whole gallon with the first feeding, possibly the 2nd.

are you pHing your water?
what size containers are you growing in?
what kind of light are you using?
what temp is your room at?

First Grow-Journal

That is my journal, but i have 6 15 watt 6500k's and 2 42 watt 2700 lumen cfls. I believe i have adequate ventillation for now, i will have a problem when there is smell but im debating several ideas for that. Yes, i have a digital ph tester that has been calibrated. The ph was around 7.1 i believe. I have ph up and down on the way. Havent given nutes as of yet, i thought it was a bit too soon also so i was questioning whether it needed full strenth.

head... when you water, I would use at least 1/2 gallonof water per container at every watering... EXCEPT in the seedling stage... AND only water when the plant is thirsty and the soil is dry.... probably every 3-10 days if you use 1/2 gallon of water and the temps stay below 80 degrees..

UNTIL you KNOW... always dilute to 20% the recommended fertilizer.... keep a journal of how much and how often your FERTILIZE.. so that you can uincrease it by a couple percent the next time you grow.. the goal is to giveyour plant as much FOOD (nutrients) as possible without burning it...

IFthe tips of the leaves are brown... you have BURNED the plant... BUrning your plant sucks.. and it can be very hard to return to health from a serious burn...

i like the pot and peanut butter jar comparison.. you are a clever cat..

cheers

I was under the impression to begin with i didnt need to nute for atleast a month but was reading somewhere that with organics, smaller doses wont hurt it. Aparently i was misinformed on that. Ive honestly put in a good amount of research so im not just going into this blindly. But about water, I suppose when its much bigger it will require a half gallon because at this point I think that would fall under the category of "flushing" . Ive basically been feeling with my finger about 1-2 inches into the soil to determine when it needs watering but at this point its only been every 2 or 3 days. And about lighting situation, I will have a 250 watt hps for flowering. Hopefully the cfls do me good until then.

and yeah, the peanut butter was kind of a last minute improvision. I had no tape measure but wanted to put picture in my journal of the container. I just kinda walked around the kitchen blazed and assumed most knew the basic size of peanut butter...guess its about the right size then

I am growing 2 plants in Fox Farms OF and did not start adding any nutes until the plants were a month old. They just never needed them. I started with a 50% dilution every 3rd watering during veg. They thrived and grew quickly with no burn. Now they are two months old and a week into flowering. I just started adding bloom nutes (Botanicare CNS-17 Bloom). Full strength, but limited quantity (two 16 ounce cups of nute per 3 gallon pot) and will feed once every 9 days. Normal watering for me is every 3 days. In my book it is better to under than over with nutes. I stick with light weight organics as chemical fertilizers are easy to OD on.

Watch your plants and they will tell you what they need. Do not get in too big a hurry, the OF is good for at least a month just on its own.
