Default first grow when to test soil ph?

i watered my clones earlier today and not my bigger plants .so i just tested the ph with a new soil master i just got.the wet clones read 5.5 the dry plants read 7.when do i test wet or dry?

Not to hijack this thread.. but whats the importance of checking the soil ph? Or is it better just to use ph water? I am curious cause I dont know how to check my soil.. i have a ph meter for water though.

i bought a soil test meter from lowes for $10 if the ph is not in range the plants cant grow to its full potential .my problem is there high but the soil is pretty dry so i don't know if thats a factor?

Interesting... perhaps I should get a ph meter from lowes then.... dam more money....
