Ive just started growing my first plant

I have been using normal house hold lights for the veg stage....im 6 weeks in so far and i would like some input.....is my plant about the right size for its age??? When should i swap to my 600w HPS???

I originally started with the 600w hps but the plant seemed to dry out and not like it very much so for the past 4 weeks i have been using 100w house light bulbs.

My plant is about 10 inches tall now. I feed it once every 2 days with nutrients and water, and have the lights on 24/7

Im not 100% sure of the type of plant this is as i got the seed out of a bud i bought ( lemon haze or lemon something ). The stalk is a purple colour....is this normal, as ive heard it can be a number of things including the strain of plant.#

get it back on the hps and just make sure you keep it cool in their. I also was having that problem with my 400 watt hps so I just moved the light up about 6 inches and pointed a fan on it and the girls seem to be getting better. Btw you shouldn't be giving it nutes every feeding, that may be your problem with it drying out. It looks pretty good to me just back off on the nutes. have you checked your soils ph? It may be that your nutes are being locked out.

Ahh cool.....i was thinking of putting the light on during flowering as its costing me nearly £3 a day to run it and it seems to be growing at a steady speed.

This is my first plant though so all the advice is much appreciated.....how would i take the soils ph level???? I am growing in compost with added john innams or something??

I dont feed nutrients every time i water the plant...im leaving it until the soil is pretty dry then watering it....and giving nutrients every second day or so

I see, sounds good on the watering and nutes .Your plant looks good man. Wow that is really expensive for the lighting. Ill tell you now that if your just using a regular light your plant is getting no were near the ammount of light and color of light that it needs. I'd check out this page http://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=...article&id=259. As you can see, your plant will definetly suffer with a 100 watt indolesent. If I was you I would run the hps 18 on 6 off which will save yourself some money. It may very well be contributing to your purple stems, which I doubt is being cause by the strain because the main portion is green. To test your Ph you need either a ph meter, which are kind of pricey for a good one, or some ph strips, you can get like 50 online for $15. If your ph is too high or low the nutrients you are giving your plant may be "locked out."

Yea electricity is kind of expensive in the uk but i will probably go for 12 hours or so hps, and the rest normal bulbs until flowering.....then 12/12 for flowering right???? It all a bit of buggering about putting the hps up...have to hang it from a rail lol

awww.. looks like my babies. ya thats a good plan i think as long as they get some light with the hps im sure theyll be fine. If you want to force flowering then you can give it a full day of dark, then go to 12/12.

set up looks good! I think they'll be happy now! Btw i like how you have the piece of mylar taped around the plant, at least I hope it's mylar AND NOT TIN FOIL. keep me posted.

erm......yep im afraid it is tin foil....is that wrong then???? Damn!!!!!! I dont know of anything else to use, ive heard of mylar but you have to buy it on big rolls and i dont really want to invest a lot not knowing the sex

Will tin foil ruin my plant....should i just take it away???
