Default 150 watt HPS for $42.90...anyone with advice or experience?
http://www.e-conolight.com/Product/E...ber=E-HC1H151Z

I was planning on turning this into a remote ballast light and using it along with 9 23w CFLs for my second grow. My first using only the CFL's to grow 4 plants produced some acceptable smoke, but not mind blowing and not enough of it. I already have solid plans on how to cool/ventilate the new HPS I will add. I am looking for anyone who has used the same unit or one very similar and thoughts one ease of wiring everything, heat produced, anything like that.

I also thought 16,000 lumens for $53 total shipped was a great deal and wanted to call attention to it for the public good. I can only find 70w or 100w HPS lights at HD/Lowes and they sell for much more.

Thanks to all, and good luck!

a year ago i got the sealed 150w hps for 25 shipped from them, and your link goes directly to the econolight home page. i dont think they still sell the cheap 20 dollar one tho. either way a light is a light, the wiring is all simple and you shouldnt have a problem with whatever size you choose

Look E-HC1H151Z up in the search bar.

It's an outdoor light so would you be able to leave the ballast in it, attach a plug, and hang it like that?

That may be possible, but for space/heat purposes I would definitely want to just hang the light itself in a DIY cool tube in the flowering layer and keep the ballast in a separate layer. I have looked at alot of DIY's for how to wire different types of 150 watt HPS lights remotely but I'm not sure if this specific light will be the same and wanted to see if anyone had experience with this one. I will eventually put up a tutorial on this one once I do it.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I've been looking at the DIYs, too. I just bookmarked one for a cool tube last night, actually.

Seems like it'd almost be more cost effective to start with this http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct...roductID=53025 for $70 plus shipping (which is $20 for me) and get a warranty and reflector to either use with the cool tube or resell to pay for the cool tube. Not trying to rain on your parade, just doing a quick project cost analysis.

Thanks, Mr Blanco. I have done a lot of looking around HTG but that somehow escaped me. That is a pretty darn good deal, so now I have some decisions to make.

EDIT: +rep to Mr Blanco

You're very welcome and thank you, as well.

I'm all about DIY when the price is right.

That's been my main thought today...$38 more for a warranty and no possibility of confusing DIY work. If only electric were as easy as building a carbon filter or HVAC for a grow space....arghh.

Time to examine a few more DIYs on the topic and make a decision. And get blazed

Well, nevermind. I found someone on Craigslist selling a shitload of surplus 250 watt HPS flood lights for $25 each. Time to have some fun with electricity!

I'll try to post a tutorial if I have success turning it into a remote ballast. And if any growers near Portland OR want a cheap 250w HPS, I can send you the link for the ad.
