Lightbulb 175W MH Bulb.. How far away??

I was wondering what is the ideal range to suspend a 175w MH bulb above my plants? I dont have much room to work with.. Maybe 1.5 ft max. Is this gonna burn my plants?? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Put your hand at the top of your plant, if the lights too hot for your hand then its to hot for your plants, adjust light accordingly.

A good starting point, would be 8 inches

Try that, then if it's to hot, try 10 inches, then 1ft, so forth.

I think a safe bet would be 10-12 inches.

if u have 1.5' from the top of ur plants ur going to have to tie them down or u might have problems with burning, make sure ur ventilation is good because with a small area like that heat build up might be a problem with HID lights systems

You mean like start LST them early on? In general I didnt wanna let them get any bigger than say 10"-12" because my flowering chamber is only like 3.5' high.

As for the ventilation, I have A/C air coming in thru a 4" duct to offset the heat from the light.

My ideal setup is gonna be mini-veg/clone chamber+small scale flower (Scrog) Chamber. I already have the box built. I'm waiting on seeds. Picking up my light tomorrow. =]

i used to use a 250 watt hps and with a good fan i could get it has low has 5 inches. i see no reason why you couldnt get your around the same maybe a lil lowwer
