I've made a small tank into an aeroponics chamber in which the roots will grow inside no medium but clouds.

I have a mini diffuser or mini nebler, see picture below. I put that in a refilling plastic container that maintains a constant water level. Now basically the plants will be suspended by a spounge at the roots. I have a small fan that will run at the same time to move the fog though out the tank.

Since the roots will be receiving a fog for water, I was wondering how long and how many times a day I should run the little device, "Nebler" as it were.

Bump, any help would be apprecaited on to how long I should keep my water running for my plants. 15 mins, 30 mins... 3 times a day?

what planet is this idea from? WOW!!!! Im still trying to figure out how to best utilize my flourescent shoplights and some CFL's hahahahaha. This thread reminds me of just how NEW i am

You will probably have to run your fogger 24/7.

Hmm, I heard that it should be run 3 times a day for 15-30 mins. I could be completely wrong, and I could have to run it constantly. I just want to make sure that Ive got the times down correctly before I go though with putting the plants in.

if the roots are not in a medium. rather the roots are just hanging in the air you may need to run it 24/7 at least no more the 1/2 hour off. i know air is good for roots, but thats usually in an over soak soil or other medium not air. besides your mist will be mostly air anywho. no need to dry air.

you will find the the fogger become ineffective once its submerged in water about 3 or 4 times its own height. So a wider tub seems to be better, that way you keep lots of water in... a solution to this is to superglur some polystyrene so it can float in the water.

the other problem with taller containers is that the mist doesn't always leave the container but a fan can sort that out.

to be honest you will have more trouble than its worth using the fogger. I have to keep checking the water level on mine so it doesnt burn the motor up when the water level is too low. it does go through quite a bit of water also, i use a 2ltr coke bottle and within 30mins its half empty from been filled to abouve the label.
