so im pretty new to all of this but i decided to give it a try. right now my box setup is a 2x2 area lined with the dull side of aluminum foil and flatened out to reflect more evenly. i have four cfl's (880 lumens) soft white 2 located on each wall and a hps 150 watt located on top. for ventilation i have a hole cut in top left corner with a fan pulling the hot air out and a hole in the bottom right corner with a fan to blow cold fresh air in. the rest is sealed tight with insulation foam and weather stripping.
After all this i finally found a problem. the temp gets to almost 90 degrees in there. i unplugged the hps and it significantly dropped to about 75-80 degrees.
my question is would it be safe to put the hps on a timer for every other hour giving it 12 hours total in a 24 hour cycle? this way it would help with the heat issue but i dont know if it would be ok for the plants. the stems i have now look like they wont make it becuase they have been moved around alot untill i built this but i have two more planted in the larger pot. would this area and lighting suffice? help! thanks

take the aluminum down and use white paint it will drop the temperature enough to get what you want

it will only drop 4-8 degrees but if your right under ninety degrees your fine already

Cycling the HPS on and off isn't good for the bulb.

removing the foil will help, but you also need a bigger fan pulling air, and an additional passive intake on the bottom...

I'd get a cheapo duct booster at home depot for $30

If noise is an issue you could use large (140mm) computer fans, but you'll need at least 2

ok cool i will def put in another fan in there because noise isnt an issue really and can i paint white over the foil? or would i have to skrape it all off :/ ?

Leave the foil there. It'll reflect more light. You need an air cooled reflector (sealed) and fan.

take that foil off and put more light in there, but before all that put them shits into there own pot, they kinda look overwatererd, or soil may have poor drainage, or stressed alittle from heat possibly caused by the tinfoil
